If you're getting error 10060,

this means that you ARE NOT ALLOWED to access the web server remotely. Usually we (I mean, I) access the mysql databases using php connect error 10060 thunderbird and this is on the SAME server. Thus we use 'localhost' to connect. But if you were to for example access the same web database using a local machine running VB, the story is different. First, here's what

you should NOT do. I'm saying this because I noticed some responses had these as action steps. So, 1. DON'T change any ports 2. DON'T close existing ports and reopen new ones as it may affect other apps. 3. DON'T disable any firewalls. Now here's what you MUST do: 1. on your connection string, make sure that you're using the SERVER'S correct IP. On the other hand, you can use the domain name, and this is what I mysql error 10060 can't connect do. 2. The rest of the parameters are the same. I mean they're what you want or have set. 3. NOW the critical thing. First you've got to tell your web server that you need to accept remote connections. You can easily do this using the cpanel. When you're asked for the remote host name, type in % (the percentage sign) to mean ANY HOST. 4. Finally, you may have to tell the web server's firewall that you're making a remote connection from your machine. To do this, cpanel allows you to add your own IP into a 'white list'. In most cases, cpanel shows you a list of class C IPs and your one should be there. Select it. Save the settings. Now go into your app and run the program - eg: in VB. Should work just fine! WSAETIMEDOUT (10060) 10060 is a connection-timeout error that usually appears when the client does not receive a response from the server for a specific command. This error often occurs when you try to connect in PASV mode to a server that prefers PORT for data connections. If you see an error log similar to the http://help.globalscape.com/help/cuteftp8/Socket_errors_10060_10061_10064_10065.htm one below, in the Site Properties of the problem site, click the Type tab, then change the Data Connection Type to Use PORT. ERROR:> Failed to establish data socket. If you still receive a 10060 error, the server may be trying to send a listing for a very large directory (with many thousands of files) causing the client to time-out while waiting. Try increasing the time-out value in the Global Options dialog box (Tools > Global Options > Transfer > Reconnect and resume in [ n ] seconds if nothing received ) to a higher value, such as 45 or 60 seconds. The connection fails due to an error or timeout. Verify that the destination IP address is correct. Increase the connection timeout threshold under Global Settings > Connection. Switch to the opposite data connection type (PASV or PORT) under Site Settings > Type tab. Verify that the problem is not local by trying to connect to an alternate server. If a server name was used, verify it resolves to the correct address. If using a local server table for server name resolution, check to see that it doesn't resolve to an obsolete address. Try pinging the address. (See Troubleshooting

Socket error = #10060. CAUSE & RESOLUTION https://kb.globalscape.com/KnowledgebaseArticle10384.aspx A socket error 10060 is a connection time-out error that occursif CuteFTPdoes not receive a response from the remote FTP server after a command is sent. It occurs after an FTP session is established but usually before any http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=477422 data is received from the remote FTP server. This can be caused by a blocked port, an incorrect setting for the data connection typeor in some cases by an unusually large filelist. If you first encountered thiserroreither when firstestablishing error 10060 the connection or when starting a file transfer, then it maybe necessary to change the data connection type. CuteFTP usespassive (PASV) mode by default but for this remote server you may need to use active (PORT) mode instead. To make the switch from PASV mode to PORT mode in CuteFTP Home, open the Site Manager and click once on the the name of the problem site on the left side of the window. On the Type tab connect error 10060 change the Data Connection Type to Use Port. If you are using CuteFTP Pro, in the Site Manager, right-click on the name of the problem site and click Site Properties. On the Type tab, change the Data Connection Type to Use Port. Note: If changing the data connection type has no effect then you should return this setting to the default of Use global settings. If the error occurs after the initial FTP connection has been established (successful authentication on the remote FTP server) but before any data has been received from the remote FTP server, then the needed data socket (port or channel) is being blocked by your firewall. (Note that in this case, you would not be able to connect with any FTP sites at all.) Configure your firewall so that the FTP protocol is allowed. At the very least, FTPtraffic needs to be allowed on ports 20 and 21. It may also be necessary to grant specific permission for CuteFTP to access those ports. If so, then you may need to add cuteftp.exe (or cuteftppro.exe) and ftpte.exe to an exception list maintained in your firewall program. If you need help configuring your personal firewall please consult the firewall program's help file or the technical support area of the manufacturer's Web site.
