Right-click the directory and go to properties. Uncheck the "Read-Only" box. Running as Admin did not help. It turns out I had Windows Explorer open to the Rift folder. I had been looking for the keyboard layout file earlier and left it open. Closing Explorer FIXED the error. http://forums.riftgame.com/technical-discussions/tech-support/86191-error-1027-please-help.html So if your not running explorer then at least close all other apps you are running before resetting the client and trying again. I even stopped and manually restarted the explorer.exe process. I have logged in as Admin, Run As Admin, changed permissions on every single folder to grant "Everyone" full control of the Rift Game folder, subfolder and files. Nothing. I tried to uninstall but then it says it can't access the Windows Installer Service. So then I spent an hour making sure Windows Installer works. It does.

This should only occur with Windows XP and 2000.
