I've been attempting to use PHP to connect to a MySql database. My web host uses cPanel on Linux. The code I'm using to do this seems standard enough: $mysqli = new mysqli("localhost", "cPanelUsername_dbUsername", "dbPassword", "cPanelUsername_dbName"); I've been getting the following error: Failed to connect to MySQL: (1045) Access denied for user 'cPanelUsername_dbUsername'@'localhost' (using password: YES)Access denied for user 'cPanelUsername'@'localhost' (using password:

NO) "localhost" is the host server where the MySql server is located (it seems like this works) "cPanelUsername" is my cpanel username "dbUsername" is the database user, which I added to the database with all permissions granted "dbPassword" is the database password for dbUsername "dbName" is the database name I ended up adding my cPanel username before the dbName and dbUsername after searching for answers to this issue elsewhere. It looks like I have everything set up correctly but it's not connecting (with the error above). I don't have any direct control over the server that I wouldn't have to ask my web host about, which may take a few days to get sorted out. Do I have something wrong with my connection code? php mysql share|improve this question asked Jan 29 '14 at 17:05 Baknik 1813 2 access denied means that the account you're trying to log into doesn't exist or doesn't have the rights to log in. –Marc B Jan 29 '14 at 17:10 If your database user is called dbUsername, why are you entering cPanelUsername_dbUsername? Or is that a quirck of your hosting provider? –Wrikken Jan 29 '14 at 17:18 1 It seems to be a quirk of cPanel, at least from what I've read. –Baknik Jan 29 '14 at 18:06 add a co

Here is what I'm doing. I'm connected to my Amazon EC2 instance. I can login with MySQL root with this command: mysql -u root -p Then I created a new user bill with host % CREATE USER 'bill'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'passpass'; Granted all the privileges to user bill: grant all privileges on *.* to 'bill'@'%' with grant option; Then I exit from root user and http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10299148/mysql-error-1045-28000-access-denied-for-user-billlocalhost-using-passw try to login with bill: mysql -u bill -p entered the correct password and got this error: ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'bill'@'localhost' (using password: YES) mysql access-denied share|improve this question edited Sep 6 at 17:44 Jaap 1,2101431 asked Apr 24 '12 at 13:42 Ali 1,86081738 14 Did you FLUSH PRIVILEGES? –eggyal Apr 24 '12 at 14:10 1 Nope. Let me try that –Ali Apr 24 '12 at 14:15 1 Okay, I tried this without any success. Any other suggestion please. –Ali Apr 25 '12 at 4:35 1 What version of the server are you running? I've seen 5.1 behave oddly about this. –Poodlehat Jun 27 '12 at 14:27 1 This happened to me while installing Magento and I made a much sillier mistake. Putting 'mysql -u magento -p magento' was prompting me for a password and instead of the default password I was putting the root password in. –AmirHd Oct 29 '13 at 3:26 | show 4 more comments 26 Answers 26 active oldest votes up vote 279 down vote accepted You probably have an anonymous user ''@'localhost' or ''@'127.0.0.1'. The error message Error No. 1045: Connection denied for 'someuser@somehost' (using password: YES/NO) is a user authentication error. The user details specified do not "match" the user tables of the specified MySQL server. Common situations are * No such user. NOTE: MySQL does not use the OS's or domain's user's management. It operates its own user accounts. With a fresh MySQL installation the user ROOT is created with NO PASSWORD. When working with MySQL databases at ISP's an admin user most often must be activated from some web based Control Panel Application before connection to the MySQL server is possible. There could be more "rules" applying here (database and user naming conventions etc). Refer to the docs/support at the ISP for details on that. We can't give them!* User is not allowed to connect from the actual host. Note that MySQL by default only allows connection from 'localhost'. To specify from where a user may connect SQL wildcards (% and _) can be used. Simply 'someuser@%' means that user 'someuser' may connect from everywhere. * W
