Can anyone suggest a solution to the problem or perhaps resources for diagnosing MySQL problems. mysql share|improve this question edited Jan 7 '10 at 1:29 asked May 1 '09 at 0:05 RedBlueThing 122138 MySQL 1045 is explained here: webyog.com/faq/content/23/18/en/… –Ashwin A Aug 10 '12 at 12:14 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted You may need to reset your root password. I had a similar problem a while back. Details: How to reset the root password The basic process involves stopping the server and restarting it with a special initialization script. share|improve this answer answered May 1 '09 at 4:48 Steven Richards 13613 Thanks, this worked perfectly. I do wonder what the installer did to incorrectly set the root password. I would blame myself using the wrong password, but it actually failed from the config wizard where you set the thing. –RedBlueThing May 1 '09 at 5:20 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote 1045 is generally "access denied". See the MySQL documentation for suggestions about how to deal with

I was having problems directing a localhost and I tried fixing things in myphpadmin. I deleted my root directory/privileges in phpmyadmin and then things took a turn for the bad. mySQL could no longer run and I have no idea how to fix it. I've tried reinstalling phpmyadmin and everything related to mySQL and still do not have any luck getting it to run. I know mySQL is running because when I type in: ps -ef | grep mysql I get mysql 1149 1 0 20:23 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/mysqld jeremy 2314 2283 0 20:34 pts/0 00:00:00 grep mysql When I type in: "mysql -u root -p" and enter the password I get reset I get the message: ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES) I've tried using an init file and loading it from there, resetting passwords and using dkpg to reset things but still have no luck.
