Windows Service 1053 Error During Startup
up vote 27 down vote favorite 1 I've written a Windows Service in C# that basically checks my db every minute for orders, generates a PDF from these orders, and emails it. The logic works perfectly in my tests etc.. When i create the service, and install it using the setup project, when I go to start the service in the services mmc, I get: error 1053 the service did the service did not respond in a timely fashion windows 7 not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion My OnStart method looks like this: protected override void OnStart(string[] args) { //writeToWindowsEventLog("Service started", EventLogEntryType.Information); timer.Enabled = true; } Basically, just enables the timer... so theres no process intensive call there. Where am I going wrong? I've tried setting the startup account to local system, network service etc... nothing works! Edit: Here is my code: (processPurchaseOrders is the method where the db is queried and pdf's are generated etc...) public partial class PurchaseOrderDispatcher : ServiceBase { //this is the main timer of the service private System.Timers.Timer timer; public PurchaseOrderDispatcher() { InitializeComponent(); } // The main entry point for the process static void Main() { #if (!DEBUG) ServiceBase[] ServicesToRun; ServicesToRun = new ServiceBase[] { new PurchaseOrderDispatcher() }; ServiceBase.Run(ServicesToRun); #else //debug code PurchaseOrderDispatcher service = new PurchaseOrderDispatcher(); service.processPurchaseOrders(); #endif } private void InitializeComponent() { this.CanPauseAndContinue = true; this.ServiceName = "Crocus_PurchaseOrderGenerator"; } private void InitTimer() { timer = new System.Timers.Timer(); //wire up the timer event timer.Elapsed += new ElapsedEventHandler(timer_Elapsed); //set timer interval var timeInSeconds = Convert.ToInt32(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["TimerIntervalInSeconds"]); timer.Interval = (timeInSeconds * 1000); // timer.Interval is in milliseconds, so times above by 1000 timer.Enabled = true; } protected override void Dispose(bool disposing) { if (disposing && (components != null)) co

not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion Visual Studio Languages , .NET Framework > Visual C# Question 0 Sign in to vote Hi All, I created a basic windows service in C#. When i start it from AdministrativeTools/Services, https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/39e56d2c-fe2d-4118-9058-bc7b66d647dc/windows-service-start-up-error-error-1053-the-service-did-not-respond-to-the-start-or-control?forum=csharpgeneral this message pops up: "Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion" I have .NET 3.0 on my machine with XP professional. I have read lot of info regarding this error, there are so many results for this error when searched but no appropriate fix.All they say if there is lot of logic inside OnStart(), which may consume more than 30 seconds, then you may get time out error. But that is not the case. error 1053 The logic in my OnStart() should hardly take 1 second. In the function OnStart(), i go into a small loop to print 10 numbers to log. I have even tried spawning a thread and executing my logic in it. Then also the same error pops up. The progress bar showing: service starting is hardly for a second and then the time out error pops up. I am running the service under a particular user account, which is administrator on that machine. service did not Responses are really appreciated. regards,Santosh Jami. Is there anyway to get arround this error? My case is little bit different. Even thought the error displayed, my server process was actually running. However, its status showed as "Starting..." and I cannot stop, pause or restart my window service.I appreciate if you can give me an advice how to resolve this problem. Installing Framework 1.1 SP1 does not fix the problem as told on the MS Support page. Thanks,Locx Friday, June 27, 2008 4:32 AM Reply | Quote 0 Sign
