If I try to add a printer I get the error:'The operation could not be completed. The print spooler service is not running.'When I try to start the print spooler service I get this error immediately after pressing 'start':'Could not start the print spooler service on local computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion'I'm at a loss as to how to fix this as I need to be able to create .pdf files as well as install a new printer. Any help would be greatly appreci

Advertisement Harry32 Thread Starter Joined: Jul 28, 2009 Messages: 107 In attempting to install WinFax Pro, I get an error msg saying "Setup was unable to stop the spooler. Retry to have Setup attempt to stop the spooler again. Cancel to manually stop the spooler. You can do so by going to the control panel and selecting Services" Then, trying to stop the spooler manually (CmptrMgmt/Svcs&Apps/Services), I get an error msg saying "Could not stop the Print Spooler on Local Computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." Apparently WinFax Pro won't install with the spooler running, but I'm unable to stop it. What next? (I'm running Windows XP SP3.)
