Using the sc.exe tool provided by windows (see KB article here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/251192), I successfully "registered" the service. However, when I go to the Service Management Console (Start->Run->services.msc) and start the service, I get the following error: Error 1053: The service http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8130171/error-1053-the-service-did-not-respond-to-the-start-or-control-request-in-a-tim did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. After reading around my initial impression is that service executables have to conform to an API, and that among the required functions/methods a service has to respond to are a start/stop/restart command. However, this seems to defeat the whole point of the sc.exe tool which is advertised with the ability to turn any executable into a service. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? windows service share|improve this question asked Nov 15 '11 at 0:41 user1046592 16112 4 The sc.exe tool is not intended to "turn any executable into a service". Where did you see this? Are you confusing sc.exe with srvany.exe? –Harry Johnston Nov 15 '11 at 1:10 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote Take a look at Topshelf-project which turns many arbitrary executables into services. When you reference Topshelf, you can run your exe from a command-line, or install it into Windows Services with: your.exe install Even with topshelf registered, you would still want to have a logging facility -- such as log4net -- to monitor bootstrapping activities that could prevent it from launching in a timel

I would suggest getting in touch with QlikView support who should be able to help you out with any license issues. Check this link out on how to solve this issue:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941990A third (but not very likely) issue might be that the service accounts belongs to too many groups, breaking Kerberos authentication, as described here:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/327825 Like Show 0 Likes (0) Actions Error 1053:The service did not respond Devarajan Kalladan Jan 19, 2010 7:29 AM (in response to Björn Wedbratt ) Hi ,I have a valid license key, I had generated the LEF. Description Jerry Hammann 2003-07-30 18:06:40 UTC I downloaded Tomcat 5.0.5 this morning and installed using the auto-installer. I then attempted to start and configure the Tomcat server from the Start/Programs/Apache Tomcat 5.0 location and got no response. I went to the Services program within Control Panel/Administrative Tools and attempted to start the service from there. I got the following error: Header: Microsoft Management Console Body: Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. I've done warm and cold reboots and also changed the User and System environment variables to point to the new location (and then did a cold reboot) without success. Comment 1 Remy Maucherat 2003-07-30 18:35:41 UTC This works for me (and others). I won't be able to help unless you give steps to reproduce. The more likely is that your VM is incorrectly setup. Comment 2 Jerry Hammann 2003-07-31 16:04:53 UTC Yes, that was the problem. Thanks!
