Jim Barnes Reply With Quote 04-05, 04:29 AM #2 Re: SharePoint Services Setup Error 1057 You can only install WSS (the abbrieviation SPS is SharePoint Portal Server) on Web Edition if you use the mode that does not install WMSDE. I.e. you have to specify that you will be using SQL Server installed on another server. This restriction is not written as clearly as it should be in the Admin Guide - where it says in one para that you can install on 2003 Standard; Enterprise; Data Center and Web Edition and only in the para on databases that follows does it say that Web Edition requires SQL Server on a separate server. See the Admin Guide. a single server, butgot some problems. The documentation is not useful at all, it is veryunspecific and in some parts outdated. Here a short description of what itried:I have a Windows Server 2003 with installed IIS 6 http://microsoft.public.sharepoint.windowsservices.narkive.com/65Sg24JN/installation-and-configuration-with-sql-server and ASP.NET. Frontpageextensions are NOT installed. Office 2003 is installed as well as http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=720001 SQL Server2000. Everything is patched.1. Starting the setup by calling STSv2.exe. Specifying an commandline option'remotesql=yes' as mentioned in the Documentation is not possible, I thinkthis worked only for a previous version.2. I choose 'Server Farm', because I want to install with a SQL-Server andnot with MSDE3. After installation a web browser error 1057 opens showing a page 'ConfigureAdministrative Virtual Server'4. I opt to create a new Application Pool called 'BizApp'5. For security account I choose not to use the predefined account, butspecified an administrative account which has rights for SQL server.6. I receive an error: 'System Error 1057 while trying to query service"SPTimer".' The Knowlege Base does not help with this error. Taking a lookinto services error 1057 while we see the 'Sharepoint Timer Service' is started with account'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'. Maybe this is the problem?7. Starting again at point 5, but using this time a predefined account. Thisworks fine and I get the 'Set Configuration Database Server' page.8. This is a single server environment, so the database server is my localserver. I specify the local server name as database server. A database isnot created yet, but the web page says this web page is also to create adatabase. So I specify a database name 'StsConfigDB'. I leave Windowsauthentication and do not select to connect to an existing database. Allusers have already domain accounts.9. After clicking Ok I get the error 'Login failed for user 'NTAUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'. (Error code: 18456).' Looking into the KnowledgeBase this indicates me a problem with SQL-Server privileges. Do I have togive the Network Service access to my database? What rights are needed? Whycannot be used a different account?10. Starting again at point 4. I choose to use the default createdapplication pool 'StsAdminAppPool' and not to create a new application pool. This leads to the same error as mentioned above.Does anyone have a short description
