2012 R2 Servers as an ADFS Farm (Server 2008R2 Domain however) for Office 365. Everything installs fine and we can pass-through authenticate through the Web Application Proxy NLB we have setup. However, when we reboot either of the ADFS servers the ADFS Service never starts, if you try to manually start the service you receive a 1297 error - looks like User Rights Assignment for the Domain Admin account running the service. Does anyone know what rights this needs - sql error 1064 cant seem to find anything online - I've been trawling all day... The Server 2012 'adfssrv' service requires the following Required Privileges: Constraint/Value SE_AUDIT_NAME TEXT("SeAuditPrivilege") In English... :-) Required to generate audit-

from one to another CRM deployments, therefore, I need to start my ADFS VMs. On one of the error 1064 you have an error in your sql syntax instance of the ADFS server, the ADFS won't start for unknown reason and I got this error message when I looked at the event viewer: The Active Directory Federation Services http://www.edugeek.net/forums/cloud-services/138214-adfs-3-0-service-does-not-start-after-reboot.html service terminated with the following error: An exception occurred in the service when handling the control request. The error message is seems to be generic exception message without any further details provided. After a quick research and looking around at the event viewer, I found more descriptive error message on: Applications and Services Log > AD FS > Admin https://andz88.wordpress.com/2014/09/18/adfs-service-wont-start-how-to-troubleshoot/ The error message described the connection to SQL could not be established, as my practice ADFS setup is using internal database, it turned out to be the Windows Internal Database service is stopped. All seemed to be fine after I set everything up, however, once I restarted my DC, when attempting to load the AD FS manager, I get the error: An error occurred during an attempt to access the AD FS configuration database: Error message: ADMIN0017: An exception occurred while connecting to the configuration service. The configuration service sql error 1064 URL 'net.tcp://localhost:1500/policy' may be incorrect or the AD FS 2.0 Windows Service is not running. When checking the services, I notice the AD FS service is in fact stopped. When attempting to start this manually, I get the error: Windows could not start the Active Directory Federation Services service on Local Computer. Error 1064: An exception occurred in the service when handling the control request. I'm not entirely sure what to do here. I've been reading it may have to do with the service account used to run the service, but I've made sure the account is in good order (unlocked, correct password, etc.). I've also read you have to explicitly add this service account to the list of accounts allowed to log on as a service in the relevant GPO, which I have. Any help is greatly appreciated. active-directory service adfs service-accounts share|improve this question asked Aug 31 '15 at 22:04 Michael H 1315 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote I got exactly the same error after we done the migration of the ADFS VM through VMware SRM to another data-center. the environment is Windows 2012 R2 ADFS 3.0 things I have checked from the ADFS server and it worked for me Check the Windows firewall is "turned off" for "Domain Network" Check the connectivi
