System Error 1067 Has Occurred Openssh
10:13:37 -0500 Subject: RE: Sshd cannot be manually restarted References: dot int> And here's the files... email... -- Matt Johnson I used ssh-host-config to set up the sshd service and provided different options to the queries. In between variations system error 1067 has occurred sql server of input to ssh-host-config, I completely removed Cygwin and reinstalled it. To provide a clear problem description, I started from a fresh install and used the attached install.bat.txt script (my mail client removed the previous script because it was a batch file) to install Cygwin and configure sshd. Everything works fine in the script except for the system error 1067 has occurred service final command which attempts to start the service and results in the output below. Attached is also the cygcheck output after the installation. ---- Output ---- The CYGWIN sshd service is starting. The CYGWIN sshd service could not be started. A system error has occurred. System error 1067 has occurred. The process terminated unexpectedly. ---- End Output ---- So after the clean install, the service does not start. But I rebooted the machine and the service is running once I get logged in to the machine (ssh-host-config sets the start mode to auto): ---- Output ---- C:\>sc query sshd SERVICE_NAME: sshd TYPE : 10 WIN32_OWN_PROCESS STATE : 4 RUNNING (STOPPABLE, NOT_PAUSABLE, IGNORES_SHUTDOWN) WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0) SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0) CHECKPOINT : 0x0 WAIT_HINT : 0x0 ---- End Output ---- I can connect to the machine remotely using PuTTY. Looking in the Windows Application event log, I see three logged events related to sshd: sshd: PID 1616: `sshd' service started sshd: PID 1952: Server listening on :: port 22. sshd: PID OpenSSH Server on Windows XP x64 From: Marcus Rademacher OpenSSH Server on Windows XP x64 Reply-to: m dot rademacher at redcedartech dot windows could not start the sshd service on local computer error 1067 com Hello, I'm having an issue getting the OpenSSH server to install and run on Windows XP x64. I'm using the latest version of Cygwin as of today. I get the following error: "The CYGWIN sshd service could not be started. A system error has occurred. System error 1067 https://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2013-05/msg00059.html has occurred. The process terminated unexpectedly." I have tried it several different ways, with and without priv separation. Making the local account first, letting the ssh-host-config script make the account. I'm at a loss at this point. I'm able to install on Win XP 32-bit and Win 7 64-bit just fine, with no changes to the process. I have also tried http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2012-03/msg00260.html on several Win XP 64-bit machines, and I get the same response. I'm also aware that XP x64 is based on Server 2003, and when I put that in my search I do find other tips, but none of them seem to apply. I don't know if that is because they are based on older versions of Cygwin or if the script detects the OS and presents different questions to Server 2003. I've also tried using the instructions at this page: http://www.kgx.net.nz/2010/03/cygwin-sshd-and-windows-7/ It's really for Windows 7, I know, but I thought I'd give it a try. No luck, I instead get an error 1069. It does seem that the issue may be similar in some way, namely that the user account running the service doesn't seem to have the proper privs. So I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks! What Windows version are you running? –Aaron Miller Oct 9 '12 at 14:20 1 @AaronMiller: install with ssh-host-config on Windows-7 –Philippe Blayo Oct 9 '12 at 14:22 add a comment| 5 Answers 5 active oldest votes up vote 4 down vote accepted For Windows 2003 and later, the ssh-host-config script suggests using a service account, so that correct privileges can be set (because the built-in SYSTEM account has had certain powers removed in W2003). However, the cygwin team has developed another strategy, which I have had good luck with (on Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2, anyway). If you use the cyglsa-config script to set up the cygwin LSA authentication package, you can switch the SSHD service back to using the System account, and no password would be necessary (and the ssh server works better, too).
