I was able to successfully install off my oracle stuff, but then realized I was missing all kinds of other functionality - can't copy and paste, can't use windows installer, can't even RESTORE. I tried msconfig.exe to see what services were running error 1068 and there were not many at all. I then went into services.msc to start the system restore service but received this error: could not start System Restore Service. Error 1068: the dependency service or group failed to start. I then just tried to reinstall windows XP on top of existing os but couldn't even do that this I received an error - cannot install since version of XP on system is newer than what is on the CD. I've had this system for almost 3 error 1068 windows years so there have been lots of updates since then. I'm lost as to what to do to restore all these services. I ran spybot and adaware and avg and no viruses, etc. were found so I'm sure the oracle install possibly corrupted something. Is there any hope of at least getting the system restore service running again so that I can restore back to my last restore point? If yes - how would I do this and what is the dependency service for restore? I used to have 4, 5 or 6 svchost.exe 's running in task manager - now I have 2. OutLook was also somehow corrupted but I can still get mail thru netscape. thanks in advance for any help that anyone might be able to suggest! I also tried to 'transfer files and settings' from drive c: to my external drive so that I could possible move everything to another machine, but then everything on c AND the external drive (which was my backup drive) got compressed and stored on my external drive. I'm afraid that when I go back to store the compressed files - it will not all fit on my C drive - will it try to reinstall on same drives and directories as it was taken from? thanks 0 Back to top #2 hylen hylen Senior TEG Forum Member Members 1,313 posts Gender:Male Location:USA Posted 28 February 2005 - 03:41 PM In services.msc, if you double-click System Restore Service and go to the Dependencies
