error 112(error not found) encountered SQL Server > SQL Server Database Engine error 112 time machine Question 0 Sign in to vote Hi there I have recently installed a new server for error 112 turbotax a client running SBS2003 R2 with SQLServer 2005. I noted that the backup failed the SQL Server database on the consistenty check. On checking the event log http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=113045 I see this message as per above. It reads in the description c:\data\law\sqldata\data41_Data.MDF:MSSQL_DBCC6: Operating system error 112(error not found) encountered. Looking in the error log I see : Configuration option 'user options' changed from 0 to 0. Run the RECONFIGURE statement to install. Error: 17053, Severity: 16, State: 1. This is a new server with about 90% of disk space NTFS still available Any idea's thanks. The system uses sparse file and alternate data stream for its dbcc operation. Look like your C:\ drive does not have enough disk space - you need at least the same amount as the original database. Thursday, June 21, 2007 9:51 AM Reply | Quote Moderator 0 Sign in to vote Hi Thanks for the reply. The server is new with sbs2003 r2 with about 65Gb free space on C:\ so it can't be not enough free space. The database is not very big.. Any more idesa's Thanks Stephen Saturday, Jun
SERVER - Backup Randomly Failing with Error 112 (There is not enough space on the disk.) April 14, 2016Pinal DaveSQL3 commentsSolving puzzle is something everyone would love to do. It gets our creative thoughts and the things that it challenges how we can solve http://blog.sqlauthority.com/2016/04/14/sql-server-backup-randomly-failing-error-112-not-enough-space-disk/ problems. Recently I bought a puzzle which my kid had to finish in her http://www.dbforums.com/showthread.php?768901-Operating-system-error-112(There-is-not-enough-space-on-the-disk-) school holidays. I was amazed to how complex it was. I saw that my kid and wife had taken almost a week to solve it. But once they finished, the expression in their faces to show-off was amazing. I felt it was worth every penny I had spent on it. Few people like detective series error 112 because of the same reason. And I also got a similar chance while working with a client in the recent past. Here is the puzzle which they wanted me to solve for Error 112.As per my client, the problem started a few weeks ago. On random basis the backup of the database was failing with below error in maintenance plan history.Executing the query "BACKUP DATABASE [PRODDB] TO DISK = N'\\…" error 112 not failed with the following error: "The operating system returned the error ‘112(There is not enough space on the disk.)' while attempting ‘SetEndOfFile' on ‘\\\\fs01\\_SQL_Backups\\proddb_backup_2016_04_06_231005_3910233.bak'.BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally. As we can see, the backups were taken at network location. They took a backup locally and it was lesser than free space available so backup would have succeeded. I have asked if there has any special setting done for backup. All they told me that they are using compressed backup.Resolution for Error 112I did some research and found that the backup size of compressed backup would be different in the beginning and at the end. As we can think, the size completely depends how compressing the data is and SQL Server cannot determine that beforehand. Based on my research, compressed backup completely works on the pre allocate, it may succeed if disk space is less and may fail if disk space is more depending on the pre-allocation file size and final compressed backup size.I have asked to enable the trace flag 3042. By enabling this trace flag, backup bypasses the “pre-allocation algorithm”. This means it will have the most optimized space beforehand. Here is the code to enable the traceflag 3042.DBCC TRACEON (3042,-1); GOIf due to any r

Hi! While backing a SQL database onto another system after mapping the drive I get this error saying "Operating system error 112(There is not enough space on the disk.)..". There's a lot of space on the Destination server. But when I back it up onto the same machine the backup's successfull. I'm not even able to copy and paste the backed up file onto another machine. can someone help me out on this The size of the DB is 5GB. Is it the problem with the size?? Thankyou For answering Satya and Loach... I'm logged in with Sa user on the server and also logged on in administrative mode on both the machines (source and destination servers) I think I've not communicated clearly I'll try and put in my query more eloborately. 1. We have a server which hosts the SQL server and the Database X installed on it. The size of the database when backedup is around 5 GB. 2. We have a backup server which has all the backed up files. 3. I've scheduled the backup using the SQL server agent (Scheduled in Sa user mode). 4. I've created a folder by name DB backup on the backup server and I've assigned access rights to it for administrator user. 5. I've mapped the DB backup folder as a network drive to the Server. 6. Now since DB backup folder acts as a drive in the actual server I scheduled the backup into that folder. This Process worked successfully earlier, but then the size of the databas
