Then I got some kind of update from Adobe and tried to run it. error 12029 occurred while connecting to server It said it was already there, and asked if I wanted to overwrite or put it elsewhre. I could do neither. Also, I believe I may have had an Internet Explorer Update. The icon now looks different when

the application shows on the taskbar. Then I tried logging onto internet, and Internet Explorer won't allow me to, saying "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." I called my dsl server and they confirmed the modem is OK (it works well with my wireless laptop). On the Network Diagnostics page for XP it shows everything OK except under Connectivity it says "FTP (Passive): Error 12029 connecting to ftp microsoft.com. A connection with the server could not

be established." What does all this mean and what can I do? The cause of the error was due to Windows Defender. Is there a better way to get around this than completely turning off Windows called process failed Defender? I tried turning off "real time protection" to no avail, I had to completely turn WD off to stop the 12029 errors. If there is no better solution hopefully someone else with the same issue will see this question and be able to fix thier own problem. I searched the intertubes high and low and didn't find any crossreferences between wininet error 12029 and WD. My code for reference ::CInternetSession session; ::CHttpConnection* connection = session.GetHttpConnection(L"twitter.com",80,m_csUserName,m_csPassword); ::CHttpFile* httpfile = connection->OpenRequest(CHttpConnection::HTTP_VERB_GET,L"/account/verify_credentials.xml"); httpfile->SendRequest(); c++ windows mfc windows-vista wininet share|improve this question asked Aug 18 '09 at 1:13 JohnG 40310 Well shucks, my face is red. Does anyone have any thoughts? –JohnG Aug 19 '09 at 2:09 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted If Windows Defender displays a warning message after blocking your program, you should have the option to add your program to a list of "allowed items" which will allow it to run unencumbered whil
