2012 Issue: I tried to download updates creating a new Software Update Package using a remote SCCM console. SCCM created a folder for the first update under the Package Source folder, but could not download content – failed https://777notes.wordpress.com/2012/09/27/sccm-2012-software-update-download-failed-with-error-there-was-an-error-downloading-the-software-update-12029/ with ERROR: There was an error downloading the software update. (12029) Resolution: I checked https://community.mcafee.com/thread/29642?start=0&tstart=0 PatchDownloader.log located in %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Temp\3 folder and found the error saying the content cannot be downloaded from Microsoft Update site. There is a proxy in the environment. I set proxy settings in IE and content was downloaded successfully. Note: There is a Proxy Settings in properties of Software Update Point in SCCM. Do not forget to set it up error 12029 if there is no direct connection to Microsoft Update sites from your SCCM SUP. This settings affects SUP/Microsoft synchronization process only! To download Software Update Content you have to have proxy configured in IE on the machine you use to run the SCCM console. At least that solve the issue for me. I got lucky and decided to search the registry for my proxy because I cleared it out of everywhere I could think of. Sure enough I found it in a SMS reg key. Then I cleared it and and now my ADR's are working correctly. I had to put my servers on a different vlan so they have a direct connection now, no proxy but oh well at least they work. Reply SCCM BOFH June 30, 2015 at 10:06 am I had this exact problem and sure enough, setting the proxy in IE on the workstation used to run the SCCM console worked - thanks. I tried forcing it and then eventually uninstalled to give it a fresh start. The next problem was that I couldn't install it back. I couldn't install the virtual technician. It kept complaining of a bad connection... and Error 12029. Odd, since my computer was working fine, except for McAfee. Since I had just bought an additional license, I saw that I could get 30 days phone support for free. I called in and agreed to let the tech take over my machine. She asked that I start Internet Explorer. But I use Firefox. She said, no deal. You have to use Internet Explorer for me to take over your machine. So I started IE, and it didn't work. It had some sort of bad connection. The tech said she couldn't help me and suggested I call the cable company to fix my IE. I upgraded to IE8, and it still didn't work.So then the light came on. Apparently, McAfee uses the IE profile in some fashion for its connection. So if there is something wrong with IE, the McAfee software will misbehave. So I slogged though all of the preferences screens on IE8 and eventually found a misplaced check near Proxy settings. I fixed that, and IE would connect to Google. So then I downloaded McAfee successfully and installed successfully.Moral of the story: McAfee uses the Internet Explorer Internet Options for its connectivity. If that isn't working, you will get an Error 12029 when you try to download McAfee software or virus definitions. This is true whether y
