We use a Dell 1600sc server with Windows 2003 server software configured with a shared mapped http://wizyo.blogspot.com/2006/01/quickbooks-update-error-may-not-be.html drive for our data. There are 3 new identicaly configured computers connected and setup with QB Pro 2005. All are setup to update automatically. 2 of the PCs and the server updated with no problems, the 3rd error 12029 PC keeps getting the ERROR 12029 even though there is not an internet connection problem. All of the units are connected to cable internet through a Linksys router and this has performed very well. I have used all the suggestions from the QB knowledgebase with no luck. mystery. So this is me giving back to the community. Thanks for stopping by.. and don't forget to tell your friends! QuickBooks update error may not be firewall related after all Error #12029 and Error #15212 are documented on QuickBooks' support website. But when the ordinary fixes failed to resolve the issue, I dug a little deeper and this is what popped up: Issue started with a laptop not being able to access QuickBooks company data. Customer contacted Intuit tech support prior to my arrival. Support had them configure client PC to download updates, but continue to receive errors. Tech told them it must be a firewall issue and to have someone local look at it. Turns out, the Windows Firewall was disabled. When I tried to enable it, an error popped up and the following errors appeared in the event log: Event Type: Error Event Source: ipnathlp Event Category: None Event ID: 30013 Date: 1/10/2006 Time: 11:06:37 AM User: N/A Computer: LAPTOP Description: The DHCP allocator has disabled itself on IP address 192.168.1.25, since the IP address is outside the 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 scope from which addresses are being allocated to DHCP clients. To enable the DHCP allocator on this IP address, please change the scope to include the IP address, or change the IP address to fall within the scope. Some DNS or WINS servers may be inaccessible to clients on the local network. The data is the error code. The cute little link for help from Microsoft popped up this info: Event ID 30013 Now I don't see anything in reference to a firewall, but the mention of ICS pointed me towards the network connections. Immediately, I noticed the dial-up adapter is shared which invokes the Internet Connection Sharing services and accompanying configuration. The strange thing about this system is that ICS sets a static IP address on the LAN adapter, but this one is set for DHCP. Disable ICS and lose access to LAN. Discover a static IP has appeared in the TCP/IP settings for the network adapter. Set back to DHCP and test successful. Enable Windows Firewall without incident. Determine trouble to be an indirect result of an incomplete configuration of the internet connection service. QuickBooks is now
