installing the software. What's wrong? Answer: The Windows "System" group needs to have access to the file. This problem often occurs when the msi file is saved to a folder without System group permissions and with "Inherit from parent" set. To solve this, grant the System group Read & Execute permissions for the installer. See also: error 1305 windows 10 http://devsac.blogspot.com/2009/02/error-reading-from-file-msi-verify-th... I have an installer for a driver. The installer starts but it stops midway giving me the error (for multiple files): "Error reading: [filename]. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it." What I tried: I go to the directory within the installer's folder and find error reading from the file exists. Usually this problem is with .msi files but this time, it was with multiple files types (.exe, .dll, .cat, .inf, and .sys). What can be the issue here? I'm running Windows 7 on a Macbook if it matters. And this is the link to the driver download. Update: I reinstalled Windows in desperation, but still not fixed. Also, when I try to open the install files mentioned above individually, I am now unable to. I get the message: "These files can't be opened. Your Internet security settings prevented one or more files from being opened." I went to Internet Options and lowered my Local Intranet security (and made sure I was allowed to open unsafe files as well) but this still does not solve the issue. I also want to make a note that initially, I was able to run these files individually but the installer would still fail with the same error. windows-7 installation share|improve this question edited Jul 20 '15 at 22:54 asked Jul 15 '15 at 23:40 Jefferson Steelflex 78312 Perhaps the installer is corrupted? Tuesday, February 24, 2009 Error reading from file ... .msi Verify that the file exists and that you can access it Got a confounding error that occurred when trying to install an msi file on windows XP:(Error reading from file ... .msiVerify that the file exists and that you can access it.)After quite a bit of hair-pulling, I realised this was happening because I had removed Security rights to all users except myself for this folder... including the System group!I suppose since the System is what performs actions on msi to unpack it, etc, it needs rights here.So all I had to do was to put the msi file in a folder that has System rights. In this case, I simply enabled access for System group to the directory and the problem was solved.
