a problem with Permissions regarding the referenced folder. The easiest way to fix a problem with these folders is to reset permissions on the directories in question. This can be done manually by comparing the permissions on the folder to another installation of Windows with the correct permissions set on the folder in question. An

easier way of doing this would be to just reset the permissions to that of the parent folder. A quick and easy tool can be used to achieve this:http://sunbelt-software.com/support/utils/inherit.exeDownload this application and place it on your desktop. You can then drag and drop the file or folder you intend to reset permissions on over the top of this application in order to reset the permissions for it.If done correctly, a prompt displaying the text OK will pop up. This indicates successful execution of the application. Folders that are particularly susceptible to permissions corruption are listed below.Windows XP: %UserProfile%\Application Data %UserProfile%\Application Data\GFI Software %UserProfile%\Application Data\GFI Software\Antimalware C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GFI Software C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GFI Software\Antimalware Windows Vista / 7 / 8: C:\ProgramData C:\ProgramData\GFI Software C:\ProgramData\GFI Software\Antimalware %UserProfile%\AppData\ %UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\ %UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\GFI Software %UserProfile%\AppData\Roaming\GFI Software\Antimalware For Example; "C:\ProgramData\Downloaded Installations\{FA0F7527-B8F1-4541-22F7B7829518}\...\SBVIPRE_EN.msi"In this case, resetting the permissions for each folder is the best solution; starting with the C:\ProgramData folder first and working t

MDAC upgrades (in this case 2.81), but that did not help either. I even used the CSREPAIR tool which error 1305 microsoft office cleans up MDAC and JET problems, but that did not help, nor did the Windows Installer Cleanup tool.I re-downloaded the file, fearing corruption, but that did not help. When I tried to https://support.threattracksecurity.com/support/solutions/articles/1000070797-msi-error-1305-error-reading-from-file-during-installation install Apache which was also an .MSI installer, and it too had the same problem, there was something else going on.It turned out to be a permissions problem. I had created a shared folder with access only by users. I probably explicitly removed all other admin/system accounts, and therein lied the problem. By removing SYSTEM, when the installer tried to run from account which did http://richardsleegers.blogspot.com/2006/04/error-1305-error-reading-from-file-msi.html have access to the file and started to run it, it turned the file over to a system account "Windows Installer" which did not.To solve the problem, I gave the root folder SYSTEM read access, and then the install was able to complete successfully. The subfolders inherited the needed permission.Edited: Oct, 2007For a different twist, see Stasheg's comment below on copying the file to your Desktop. This method would write the file into a folder with your own permissions. However, if you do not have administrator access, or SYSTEM permissions in your Desktop folder, this may not work.Edited: Mar, 2008Another comment suggests "giving SYSTEM full access to the temp directory". Of course, there are often several, so try %WINDIR%\Temp and %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp.Edited: Mar, 2009As Meiki has said, a SUBST drive can cause a similar problem. I too have run into a printer driver which fails to save to a SUBST drive because it cannot see it using SYSTEM credentials. So in that case, running it from the original location or copying to an accessible folder should help.Labels: windows posted by Richard Sleegers at 10:38 AM 71 Comments: Joshua said...
