I am using VS2013 - with latest download of InstallShield Limited Edition From VS2013 -> Solution Explorer -> Installshield Project -> error 1309 error reading from file verify that the file exists and that you can access it Uninstall/Install: everything is fine. If I run the installer file (right click .msi file->uninstall/install) from the directory it is compiled in everything is fine. If I copy the .msi file anywhere else I get the above error UNLESS I copy the 'program files' directory that is also created in the DISK1 folder of installshield project. I thought this was all supposed to be packaged into 1 file (isn't that the purpose of InstallShield?) This question was originally posted on the flexera forum, but no one seems to be responding to questions on that forum: https://community.flexerasoftware.com/showthread.php?214260-Error-1309-Error-reading-from-file Any thoughts on how to fix this? When you have your InstallShield LE project ready to Build, Go into Build, Configuration Manager and change the build to SingleImage. Next do a Build. When you navigate the folders to where the CD_ROM folder is, you will see a new folder called SingleImage. As yo

Look at software you bought on CD or DVD, and you will see that most of these use the second approach. This is because dealing with very large files can cause
Visual Studio ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ Aaron StebnerOctober 30, 200512 0 0 0 I was contacted by a customer this week who was trying to install Visual Studio .NET 2003 and https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/astebner/2005/10/30/how-to-resolve-1308-or-1309-errors-while-installing-visual-studio/ was receiving 1308 or 1309 error messages during setup, which caused setup to https://community.hpe.com/t5/Client-Automation-Enterprise/Error-1309-Error-reading-from-file-c-RadiaMsiAip/td-p/4557050 rollback and fail. The errors appeared in the verbose MSI log file similar to the following (note that for Visual Studio 2002, 2003 and 2005 setup, the log file is %temp%\vsmsilog*.txt where * is a randomly generated ending): MSI (s) (87:F3) [20:13::24:123]: Product: Visual Studio .NET Professional 2003 - English -- Error 1308.Source file error 1309 not found:C:\Win\Microsoft.Net\Framework\URTInstallPath\system.security.xml. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it. MSI (s) (84:E0) [22:17:29:968]: Product: Visual Studio .NET Professional 2003 - English -- Error 1309.Error reading from file: e:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\SDK\v1.1\Samples\Technologies\Serialization\vb\SerializationVB.vbproj. System error 1. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it. There are many possible causes for 1308 or 1309 errors in an MSI-based setup. The most error 1309 error common cause of this that we've seen for Visual Studio 2002, 2003 and 2005 setup is an issue reading from the source media while installing from CD or DVD. This could be due to scratches, dust or other physical flaws on the disc itself. It could be a firmware or driver issue with the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive (we see this a lot for some of the older generation DVD-ROM drives that have slower spin speedsin particular). The most reliable workaround we've found for eliminating 1308/1309 errors and allow Visual Studio to install successfully is to copy the contents of the VS CDs or DVD to a local hard drive and then install from the local hard drive instead of from media. The instructions that can be used to copy the VS CDs or DVD locally are documented in the following locations: The VS .NET 2002readme The VS .NET 2003 readme This knowledge base article (whichis essentially a reprint of the readme contents from both VS 2002 and 2003) Note that if you have VS 2005, there is not yet a readme posted that I could find since it just shipped. I will update this post with the official lin
