There invalid drive error when installing software are some people reporting they are using it with no serious issues (on the Adobe User to User forums), but there are many others who are experiencing a variety of problems. Vista support will be available https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/install-error-1327-invalid-drive.html in a patch to Acrobat 8 products, but Adobe has not said yet when the patch will be released.Hope that helps,Dimtiri MunkirsWindJack Solutionswww.windjack.com Dimitri Munkirs WindJack Solutions pdfscripting.com Top 2007-07-18 10:24:53 #2 dthanna Registered: Sep 28 2005 Posts: 248 Update - With the release of Acrobat/Reader 8.1, the product line is now supported on Vista. You aren't answering the question. As he mentions, it has to do with the fact that during installation, you change identity from your user to administrator, thus losing all your drive mappings. So if, say, "Documents" is on a network share, the installer wonders where it went. Makes sense in theory but is mucho annoying in practice. So here's how you solve it:1. Disconnect the previously mapped network drive from Windows Explorer.2. Right click on Command Prompt in the Start Menu and select Run As Administrator.3. Type "Net Use y: \\servername\sharename"4. Exit out of the command prompt5. Open Windows Explorer6. Click 'Map network drive' menu item7. Select the y: drive and typed \\servername\sharename into the Folder box.Not very intuitive, but it works!EASIER WAY: If you already have a mapped network drive, just do steps 2-4 and it should work...essentially you map it once for the user, once for the administrator. updating applications in Windows Posted on January 21, 2011 by Robert Symptoms When trying to install or update an application, you receive an error message similar to the following: http://robertlathanh.com/2011/01/error-1327-invalid-drive-while-installing-or-updating-applications-in-windows/ Error 1327. Invalid Drive: Z: I've encountered this error installing Google Earth and another application, and it also apparently happens with many others including Microsoft and Adobe applications. Cause These installers/updaters are http://www.luisrocha.net/2009/04/error-1327-invalid-drive-when.html failing to access the drive that one of your shell folders is on -- probably your Personal folder, ‘My Documents'. This could be because: the hard drive is no longer attached or error 1327 isn't recognized by the system, or the drive was a mapped network drive that is no longer mapped, it's a network folder / mapped drive on a computer or server that is not currently available, or it's a network folder / mapped drive that the installer/updater doesn't have access to. Resolutions Cause 1: the drive is no longer attached or mapped Reattach the hard drive error 1327 invalid or map the folder back to the drive. If you need help with these, ask your administrator or local geek. Alternatively, update the registry to point your shell folder to a location that exists on a drive that exists. You may follow the directions at either Microsoft or Adobe for updating your registry (they are essentially identical). Cause 2: The network folder is on a computer or server that is not currently available Try again when the server is available (or see #1 above). Cause 3: The installer/updater doesn't have access to the network folder / mapped drive Ok, so this is really why I wrote this article. The second time I encountered this problem I had forgotten that this was the cause and how to fix it. It's seldom mentioned, and it took me a little while to find the solution even the second time around… The drive that your shell folder (again, probably ‘My Documents') is on is a mapped network drive and is connected using your own user account. However, the application installer/updater is running as the Administrative user, which does not have access to your mapped net
installation aborts. For some reason, the VMware installer does not like when you change the default location of your shell folders. I have my Windows shell folders (My Documents, My Music, My Video, My Pictures) mapped to a network drive S:.The workaround is to temporary change your shell folders back to the default location. An easy way to do it, it is by changing the User Shell Folders registry key. Be careful when editing your Windows registry, so use the following steps at your own risk.1. Run regedit.exe2. Locate the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders3. Click on File, Export and save this key to your desktop.4. Change all entries that uses your mapped drive (S: in my case) to the default one (%USERPROFILE%).5. Now, Install VMware Server.6. After installation completes, restore your User Shell Folders registry info by double clicking on the file saved on step #3.That is, you were able to install VMware server and also keep your shell folders at you custom location. I hope VMware folks fix this issue on their installer. Other people were also having this same issue when installing VMware tools.
