Microsoft Office Error 1402.setup Cannot Open The Registry Key
1402 where Office 2010 setup cannot open the registry key named Unknown/Component/[Random Numbers]. Fixing this office error 1402 problem requires a cup of coffee and patience. This error is only shown when registry keys do not have Administrator permission. But you are logged in https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/838687 as Administrator, right? As it happens some setup can mess up the registry permissions and Office 2010 installer is no exception. Entering the following line in Command Prompt will fix the problem for most people, secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose but it didn’t work for me. If it doesn’t work for http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/fix-office-2010-install-error-1402-setup-cannot-open-registry-key/ you as well, follow the second method below. Download SubInAcl, a command line tool from Microsoft that enables administrators to obtain security information about files, registry keys services, etc. It will install to Program Files folder, copy SUBINACL.EXE file to /Windows/System 32 folder. Now create a new notepad and paste the following code in it; subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /setowner=administrators subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /setowner=administrators subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /setowner=administrators subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f /grant=system=f cls Exit Rename the notepad to reset and change the extension to cmd, the complete name will become “reset.cmd” as shown in the screenshot below. Run this file as administrator. The process will now take several minutes, do NOT close the Window what may come. Once the process is complete, the command line window will automatically close and you can then install Office 2010 successfully. via Yuri’s Technology Blog & DSL Report Upd

Tech Support Guy, we highly recommend that you visit our Guide for New Members. Solved: Error 1402 While Installing Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus Discussion in 'Business Applications' started by Galleherjazz, Feb 2, 2013. Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Advertisement Galleherjazz Thread Starter Joined: Sep 23, 2002 Messages: 381 I have spent at least six hours (probably longer) researching and attempting to install a recently purchased download version of Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus. I spent a good deal of time uninstalling (completely) a previous, nag-screened unregistered, copy of Office 2010. I used the Microsoft Cleanup Utility. I ran several programs to clean up after all this, including Crap Cleaner. Each time I go to install Office, I enter the key (#), and get the prompt saying that there is ERROR 1402. Setup cannot open the registry key. I have done at least a dozen things to resolve this issue, including doing a diagnostic boot, with only essential services and processes running; disabled the firewall and virus protection; read of various other remedies, none of which has worked. I have gone to regedit several time trying to change permissions of certain registry files. Some seem to change okay. Others will change, then when I click okay, the permissions resort back to what they were prior. Other things, like clicking certain boxes about inheritance, won't stick ticked. I find the whole permissions thing a nightmare. My head is spinning. Is there a tried-and-true remedy for fixing this issue? Another question: Does Microsoft provide free installation support for its Office products? Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
