today. A couple of hours down the drain. The error I got was the following where the value and GUID varied between each try. Error 1406. Setup cannot error 1406 could not write value to key write the value Assembly to the registry key \Software\Classes\{00020906-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\InprocServer32\14.0.0.0.
This wasn't an error 1406 windows 7 actual permission problem with the registry. Instead it was something called Sentinel HASP License Manager that caused this. After disabling
Error 1402 Setup Cannot Open The Registry Key Unknown Components
the service and rebooting before retrying the Office installation again it worked. Just stopping and disabling the service did not help. Thanks a lot for that Smartbear (The Sentinel service is installed http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_install-mso_other/error-1406-upon-installing-microsoft-office/e3fe2114-8e5b-4546-b221-383d8ace7303 by Smartbear AQtime)!
