1406: setup cannot write the value to the registry key" MSO '10 08 Jan 2014 #1 Error1406 Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit 4 posts error 1402 windows 7 "Error 1406: setup cannot write the value to the registry key" MSO '10 Hi, I'm trying to install Microsoft Office 2010 but when it is installing I get the message "Error 1406: setup cannot write the value to the registry https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/838687 key." I've tried everything to fix it. I've cleaned my registry and uninstalled all traces of Microsoft Office I already had on my computer. Yet I'm still getting this error. After 4 hours of trying to fix it I'm getting pretty confused as what it could be causing this problem. I am an administrator on this computer, I've trying installing Office as an Admin and that didn't work either. Any help would be appreciated. If I get this working, I'll report back! (I went gpedit.msc from cmd and enabled full access to reg) Here is the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Office14.PROPLUSSUB Datatype: REG_SZ However, Im not really trying to add but more like modify the already existing"Display Name" value by adding the package code error 1402 office at the end of the"Display Name"and so this is how im getting this error message Fault bucket 3821260545, type 5 Event Name: Office12Setup Response: Not available Cab Id: 0 Problem signature: P1: {91140000-011D-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE} P2: 14.0.4763.1063 P3: WriteRegistryValues P4: 1603 P5: 0x1406 P6: Error 1406. Advertisement DarthCthulhu Thread Starter Joined: Feb 11, 2013 Messages: 1 So yesterday, I tried installing Microsoft Office 2013 on my PC and got this error message: "Error 1406. Setup cannot write the value Assembly to the registry key \Software\Classes\CLSID\{00020906-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\InprocServer32\14.0.0.0" I did some research on the problem, going to several different pages on Microsoft's Support site, and some other forums trying literally everything. I tried so many times to install 13, and even an older copy of Office 2010 that I own and I kept getting the same error. So today, after exhausting literally all of my options, I figured a system restore would be the only thing to help me. So I spent all day today backing up everything to restore and I completely wiped out my PC and restored it. Well, I just now tried to go and install Office 2010 and got the exact same error message. I'm so completely lost at this point. I have tried literally everything I could find and NOTHING is working. Anyone have any ideas?
