You mentioned that you're having problem installing it so I suggested that you run it in safe mode with networking so we would know if there are applications or antivirus blocking QuickBooks to install. With regards to QuickBooks 2011, it is not compatible with Windows 8. It will allow you to install QuickBooks or work at some point but we don't have any assurance that it will work perfectly in the future. You can do the steps you would like to do to test on it or contact QuickBooks support to assist you better.
