I've never heard of grub4dos before I began trying to figure out what was wrong with my computer and found that it is used for dual booting. I run windows 7 ultimate x64 and have never dual booted my machine. While my laptop itself is not password protected, I do require a password to get into windows. My question is can someone get around the required password to install grub4dos, install linux, then copy error 15 file my hard-drive, leaving it useless when they're done? If not, is there some other way, a virus or trojan, that could cause windows to fail and revert to grub? I did remove my hard-drive, put it into an external case and try to look at it on another computer. In the disk manager it shows that it's healthy, has 465gb avail and the format is RAW. I really hope that someone out there can tell me how to recover my data and that the problem is something other than some individual hacking my computer. Thanks. Windows doesn't use Grub, so there's no way it just showed up unless someone installed it. Installing a Linux distro doesn't require your Windows password - they just boot from a CD and install the distro, which includes the Grub bootloader. They can also use a Linux LiveCD to access the entire Windows partition and get pretty much whatever they want from it. Do you have your Windows 7 installation DVD? My System Specs System Manu

Hi all, I'm new to Arch and linux in general but i've managed so far and I'm really enjoying it.I'm dual booting Arch and Vista.Anyway, everything was working fine until I decided that I wanted to stop using GRUB as my bootloader and I used a program called EasyBCD and this guide http://apcmag.com/how_to_dualboot_vista … htm?page=4 Now, I get "Error 15: File not found!" when i try to boot into arch. I've looked through countless other threads and google results with people with the same problem but none of the solutions in those threads helped me.here's my menu.lst# Config file for GRUB - The GNU GRand Unified Bootloader # /boot/grub/menu.lst # DEVICE NAME CONVERSIONS # # Linux Grub # ------------------------- # /dev/fd0 (fd0) # /dev/sda (hd0) # /dev/sdb2 (hd1,1) # /dev/sda3 (hd0,2) # # FRAMEBUFFER RESOLUTION SETTINGS # +-------------------------------------------------+ # | 640x480 800x600 1024x768 1280x1024 # ----+-------------------------------------------- # 256 | 0x301=769 0x303=771 0x305=773 0x307=775 # 32K | 0x310=784 0x313=787 0x316=790 0x319=793 # 64K | 0x311=785 0x314=788 0x317=791 0x31A=794 # 16M | 0x312=786 0x315=789 0x318=792 0x31B=795 # +-------------------------------------------------+ # for more details and different resolutions see # http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GRUB#Framebuffer_Resolution # general configuration: timeout 3 default 2 color light-blue/black light-cyan/blue # boot sections follow # each is implicitly numbered from 0 in the order of appearance below # # TIP: If you want a 1024x768 framebuffer, add "vga=773" to your kernel line. # #-* # (0) Arch Linux title Arch Linux root (hd0,2) kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/6e30f601-1196-41bf-b9f3-063434fa0c45 ro initrd /boot/kernel26.img # (1) Arch Linux title Arch Linux Fallback root (hd0,2) kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/6e30f601-1196-41bf-b9f3-063434fa0c45 ro initrd /boot/kernel26-fallback.img # (2) Windows title Windows rootnoverify (hd0,0) makeactive chainloader +1 Last edited by tooeasyforkevin (2009-07-13 06:48:38) Offline #2 2009-07-13 00:40:47 my0pic Member From: Melbourne, Australia Registered: 2008-05-23 Posts: 206 Re: [SOLVED]getting "error 15: file not found!" Have you checked the entries in the neoGrub menu.lst are correct? If you installed neoGub from the EasyBCD program the menu.lst is at C:\NST\menu.lst. It should have the same entries to boot arch from /boot/grub/menu.lst.IMO, grub is far simpler to use and maintain. Offline #3 2009-07-13 00:
