I used unetbootin to create the bootable usb drive, booted into the live "cd" and continued with the prompt to install ubuntu. A few seconds short of finishing the install, an error message came up that the cd was dirty and the install could not continue (weird, since I am using a usb drive..not a cd). I tried to reboot with the usb in the computer and trying to boot from the HDD but I am met with a black screen and "error 15". I googled it couldn't really find anything helpful, is there a way to correct this? I am assuming that there is no OS on the system now, but if I can install past it with ubuntu, that would be great. I'm hoping I didn't ruin my eee... Any suggestions would be most appreciated, I am at a loss what to do at this point! Thanks in advance! Is the kernel not there? Grub doesn't seem to find it? And how can the problem be resolved without a live-cd or USB device available at this time (In about 12 hours from now I error 15 could resolve the problem, but I need this laptop today). Are all the filenames in lower case? What does your /boot/grub/menu.lst look like? All is relevant. Part of my menu.lst file for a frugal install error 15 eeepc your subdirectory name may differ. The (hd0,0) tells Grub to look on the 1st hard drive and 1st partition of it and the psubdir= tells Grub what directory on the partition contains the puppy files. For loading the kernel and initrd.gz, you have to specify the directory they are located in also. That should allow you to boot. An entry from my /boot/grub/menu.lst file is: # Linux bootable partition config begins title Slacko frugal root (hd0,0) kernel /slacko/vmlinuz pmedia=atahd psubdir=slacko initrd /slacko/initrd.gz # Linux bootable partition config ends Back to top Burn_IT Joined: 12 Aug 2006Posts: 2363Location: Tamworth UK Posted: Sat 15 Oct 2011, 05:27 Post subject: Don't forget that the case of names does matter. _________________"Just think of it as leaving early to avoid the rush" - T Pratchett Back to top Kirsten-Duarte Joined: 15 Oct 2011Posts: 44 Posted: Sat 15 Oct 2011, 05:35 Post subject: I did a full install. And wiped Puppy 4.3.1 before I did the full install, which I regret otherwise I could've still booted Frugal. Mine looks like this: title Puppy Linux 528 full install in sda1 root (hd0,0) kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda1 pmedia=atahd #Linux bootable partition config begins title Linux (on /dev/sda1) root (hd0,0) kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda1 ro vga=normal Both result in Error 15: File not found and I am certain that vmlinuz is in the /boot folder. EEE PC 4G, Puppy 4.3.1, Frugal install. Proceedure: - Boot up from CD [OK] - Partition HDD and format as ext2 [OK] - Format USB flash-drive to FAT32 [OK] - Install Puppy to USB drive using universal installer [OK] - Complete boot-loader proceedure [OK] - Reboot [OK] System responds: Error 2 and will not boot. Very helpful. Anyone know what error 2 means? Sylvander - have you ever managed to install Puppy to boot from a USB flash-drive? Mini-Me05-07-2011, 02:32 AMI've had a guts full of this - life(or installing an OS) is NOT supposed to be this difficult. :( I now have a bootable CD of Pupeee for the Asus EEE PC, which works great(the CD, that is), but when I install, I now get Error 15 - File not found. At one point during the installation of GRUB, I was asked where the installation was. My HDD is seen by Linux as sda1, so I put /dev/sda1 in the box - perhaps I was supposed to put something else? The box did say that Puppy users accept the default, but there was nothing in the box as default, so I had to put something in there... Paul Komski05-07-2011, 02:47 AMHave never had problems booting to USB (with SD Card Readers and Pen drives and external hard drives) as long as the PC supports this. It looks as if an earlier version of GParted was used than the distro you installed - resulting in an error with GRUB. So use Gparted from an earlier than 4.3 puppy, is the advice from http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/puppy-71/install-fine-grub-in-mbr-throws-error-2-a-803798/page2.html Sylvander05-07-2011, 07:55 AM1. "Sylvander - have you ever managed to install Puppy to boot from a USB flash-drive?" YES, but... Since my hardware could not boot USB... I resorted to using a Wakepup2 bootable floppy... And that successfully loaded the Puppy from the USB Flash Drive. I don't bother with that now. 2. "Anyone know what error 2 means?" Used this Puppy Google seach (http://wellmi
