I know it has to be something small...Also, a side question, why format /boot as ext2 instead of say something like ext3? What does ext2 have over ext3?♦ Last edited by Ek0nomik (2008-10-03 22:06:19) Offline #2 2008-10-03 18:30:26 Ek0nomik Member From: Wisconsin Registered: 2008-05-01 Posts: 7 Re: [SOLVED] Grub Error 15: File Not Found One more thing, when I go into grub and type:root (hd0,0)and root (hd0,1)they both return the same thing:Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83.Since one is ext2, and the other ext3, shouldn't it say something different? Grub sees both as ext2.As to the problem at hand: If the

Everything has been fine. Yesterday I updated the system with a group of patches including the a linux upgrade to 2.6.32-23, which requested a reboot. Upon reboot, I received numerous error and X would not start (using a nvidia driver). It appeared that the system was booting using the old grub with a very outdated menu.lst file. I attempted to reinstall / reconfigure grub2 and ended up now with Error 15: file not found. I found this thread and https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Grub2#Err15. I did the steps outlined in the wiki to no avail - still getting the Error 15. Below is the output of the boot_info_script. The report says that core.img is not found. But it is in /boot/grub. I'm at a loss. Any help would be appreciated. Rich Boot Info Script 0.55 dated February 15th, 2010 ============================= Boot Info Summary: ============================== => Grub 2 is installed in the MBR of /dev/sda and looks on the same drive in partition #1 for /boot/grub. => Grub 0.97 is installed in the MBR of /dev/sdb and looks on boot drive #2 in partition #1 for /boot/grub/stage2 and /boot/grub/menu.lst. sda1: __________________________________________________ ____________________

The folder names are relative to the installed copy of openSUSE 12.1 you just made and not the LiveCD boot disk its self. openSUSE uses Grub legacy by default and so when you say use the new Grub, do you mean you installed Grub 2? So I know how Grub 2 works, but not sure how well using that is going to work with openSUSE 12.1 which does not use Grub 2 by default. If possible,
