Ubuntu 7.10 Error 15
Fix Grub Error 15 on New Dual Boot Install up vote 1 down vote favorite I just installed 12.04 to Dual Boot (separate partitions) with an existing Win 7. Upon reboot after install things freeze after Grub 1.5 with a Grub Error 15 message. Is there any easy way to fix this? (I am posting this from my second computer) UPDATE: I managed to boot into both 12.04 and Win7 using BIOS: Selected xps 15 ubuntu the disk with the Win7 'C' Partition: resulted in the same error message Rebooted, tried the disk with the Ubuntu Partitions: *Grub Menu loaded: Managed to boot 12.04, rebooted, used BIOS again: Managed to boot Win 7 So, I have access to my computer again (thru BIOS), but this has been a pretty crappy install experience. Garth I used the the Final release 12.04 Ubuntu install disk, reformatted all Linux partitions, and expected a simple clean install. Other than specifying the Ubuntu Partitions, I did a basic install of 12.04. No way I did do anything to get this crap error failure! I have no idea why my install resulted in a Grub-15 error. grub2 dual-boot share|improve this question edited Oct 21 '12 at 16:05 Jorge Castro 24.2k91386589 asked May 1 '12 at 22:37 Garth 6113 grub2 does not have stage1.5 or error 15, and you should not be using grub legacy on a fresh install of 12.04. I believe wubi installs use GRUB4DOS which is a fork of grub legacy, are you sure you didn't do a wubi install? Can't boot up vote 2 down vote favorite I made a partition with Windows disk management (40GB) for the purpose of installing Ubuntu. It worked fine and I saw it next to the C http://askubuntu.com/questions/251389/grub-error-15-cant-boot drive so I turned of the computer and grabbed my USB with Ubuntu on (ubuntu-12.10-desktop-i386) and I used LinuxLive to make the USB Ubuntu "ready" (LinuxLive USB Creator 2.8.19) I got everything working and all but Then I was going to start my laptop again (The same one that I made a partition on) but after the Dell logo I got this Message: "GRUB Loading stage1.5. GRUB loading, please wait... Error 15" I thought that it was strange that I couldn't boot my windows so I look in the boot options (F12 on my dell) but I could only find a Legacy boot list and other options, I couldn't choose which partition I wanted to boot so I tried to reboot the computer with my Ubuntu USB. FYI I didn't put anything on the new made partition, I've only tried Ubuntu in vmWare player. I got thru the setup and I choose to delete the 40gig partition I made and created a new one with Ubuntu. I thought everything was fine so I restarted the computer (when

A while ago, after no updates/changes that I was aware of, my system stopped booting, and gave me: Code: GRUB Loading stage1_5 GRUB Loading, please error 15 in wait Error 15 The error is in stage 1.5, not stage2, as there is no more info on screen. However, the grub manual tells us that stage 1.5 errors have the same explanations as stage2, and error 15 is "File not found". Presumably, Grub couldn't find stage2. However, after booting with a Grub CD, a quick check shows that the stage2 and all other stuff normally present is there. Furthermore, boot_info_script says all is hunky-dory, Code: Grub Legacy (v0.97) is installed in the MBR of /dev/sda and looks on the same drive in partition #1 for /boot/grub/stage2 and /boot/grub/menu.lst. Grub Legacy (v0.97) is installed in the boot sector of sda1 and looks at sector 17179431 of the same hard drive for the stage2 file. A stage2 file is at this location on /dev/sda. Stage2 looks on partition #1 for /boot/grub/menu.lst. Checked that menu.lst and fstab were ok. Furthermore, using the Grub CD I could boot sda1 by using the chainloader +1 command, and using the configfile command brought up the sda1 menu screen in all its multiple-choice glory. So presumably something is corrupt in the MBR. Easily fixed, I thoug
Us grub loading stage 1.5 error 15 grub loading stage 1.5 error 15 error message does not necessarily indicates that you have destroyed a MBR ( master Boot Record ) of your booting partition. In fact this is a very common Grub error message. Usually this grub problem is resolved by changing a BIOS boot hard drive priority. It may happen that you just left your USB stick inside your PC and BIOS boots from it because it is set to boot from USB devices as default.Another possible cause for grub loading stage 1.5 error 15 error is that you have added or removed some hard drives from your computer which changed the BIOS's boot order. More info: Grub stage 1.5 is optional stage and is 30 KB long and starts right after of MBR. This stage describes file system used on the partition and loads grub's stage 2.
