Upgrade Fails (Paolo_Ricardo) Feb 19, 2008 6:01 PM I keep getting the dreaded "Error 1606 Could not access network location :." (sic)when I try to upgrade Acrobat Reader I've tried all the fixes i.e. deleting registry refs to Office 8.0 and 9.0, checking User Shell Folders and Common Administrative Tools (as recommended by Microsoft) but none works. Also error 1606 could not access network location appdata I've no idea what location ":." refers to. Apart from disabling Windows Installer (to stop it popping up randomly) I cannot update my Adobe Reader software. Any miracle workers out there? I've tried all of the MSoft recommendations. I tried to uninstall my current Reader version today (to replace with the latest version) but I can't even uninstall it - I get the same Error 1606. Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Advertisement smiledesigner Thread Starter Joined: May 8, 2010 Messages: 4 When trying to install or uninstall programsI get: Error 1606 could not access network location %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools\ Also I am not able to open the Administrative Tools icon in the Control Panel - it just clicks. A while back after running an anti-spy program, the next time I turned the computer on the desk top was changed, icons missing, etc. and the %SystemDrive% file folder icon was added to the desktop. I'm using XP, and ran the Microsoft "Fix it for me" for Error 1606, and a-squared free and malwarebytes anti-malware. Now when I tried to install Adobe Reader, I got either Error 1606 Could not locate network location %SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\Default User, or the one from above.
