Newby PC blur Members 2 posts Singapore Posted 07 May 2009 - 07:42 PM Hi,Yesterday, i didn't knw what my little booting windows vista error 17 brother had pressed at my laptop for his sch work, it hanged! I tried to reboot.. BUT IT DIDN'T WORK @ ALL!I am using partition for both Win Vist & WinXP Pro. Now both are not rebooting. error 17 file not found ubuntu Instead i received messages for my WinXP Pro as such:Booting 'Windows XP Professional'find --set-root /bootmgrv (hd0,1) Filesystem type is ntfs, partition type 0x17hidefind --set-root /ntldrError 17: File not foundPress any key to continue...& messages for my Win Vista as such:Booting 'Windows Vista'find --set-root /ntldrError 17: File not foundPress any key to continue...Please anyone help me on these problem i'm facing if possible, i'm so afraid of losing all my important documents in the

Those messages come from grub4dos.It seems like you have two (Primary?) partitions, one to which XP is installled, one to which Vista is installed.The one with Vista is Second partition (hd0,1).The one with XP is probably the First partition (hd0,0).Your menu.lst is something like this:title Windows XP Professionalfind --set-root /bootmgrvhidefind --set-root /ntldrchainloader /ntldrtitle Windows Vistafind --set-root /ntldrhidefind --set-root /bootmgrchainloader /bootmgrLet see what they do normally:title Windows XP Professional <-this is a title which you can choosefind --set-root /bootmgr <-this tries to find a file named "bootmgr"(the Vista loader), and sets root to it - in your case (hd0,1)hide <- this hides the found partition by changing it's type from 07 (NTFS) to 17 (hidden NTFS)find --set-root /ntldr <-this tries to find a file named "ntldr"(the XP loader), and sets root to it - in your case probably (hd0,0)chainloader /ntldr <-this loads the XP loader and boots Windows XPtitle Windows Vista <-this is a title which you can choosefind --set-root /ntldr <-this tries to find a file named "ntldr"(the XP loader), and sets root to it - in your case probably (hd0,0)hide<- this hides the found partition by ch
