Join them; it only takes a minute: Sign up Error 175: The specified store provider cannot be found in the configuration, or is not valid with EF4 and SQL Server CE 4 up vote 0 down vote favorite I'm trying to update project that makes use of an SQL Server Compact 4.0 database file, using standard SQL statements to insert/query etc, to use Entity Framework 4 (using VS2010 and .NET 4, so can't use a higher EF) Since VS2010 doesn't have design time support for From Database Entity Framework configuration with SQL Server Compact 4.0, I followed the instructions posted by ErikEJ http://erikej.blogspot.co.uk/2010/11/using-entity-framework-with-sql-server.html Specifically the part about creating a schema exactly the same as the 4.0 version, using that to set up your entities, then pointing your configuration at the 4.0 provider and database. After updating the app.config and .edmx files to point at 4.0 (as stated in the article), I get an Error 175: The specified store provider cannot be found in the configuration, or is not valid After reading more about the error, I came across this answer: Using Entity Framework with an SQL Compact Private Installation So I added:

I'll post the solution here in case anybody else has the same problem in the future:I simply imported the file into iMove HD, then outputted it once more at maximum quality using the Apple intermediate codec.It's a very obvious sounding answer, the specified store but this was my last attempt since the file I was using before had already gone through this process - twice.I've wasted an entire day on what was essentially nothing, but it feels good to get it sorted. We also take personal pride in ensuring that our products are as useful and as easy to understand as possible. Shearwater Desktop The most common technical problem people experience is Error 175. This is when the Shearwater Desktop is unable to find your dive computer. This is a devilish problem because there are many reasons why this occurs: The model and hardware version of the dive computer. The make/model of the desktop or laptop. Whether the computer has built in Bluetooth or not. Whether the computer has been recently updated or not. The list goes on… Because of all these possible variables, there is no straightforward answer. In a situation like the one above, it is tempting for a programmer to make the program spit out a long and complicated error code, as this is easier for a programmer to decipher and use. However, most people are not programmers and would find this to be overly complicated and frustrating. Finding the balance between being informative and understood is one of the many challenges of this job. Keeping in mind that most people reading these error codes are not programmers, we have the error message displayed with a brief explanation of the problem in plain English. The hope with the error message is that it will help users understand, and then fix their problem, but there is a key flaw in this plan: we only display what the problem is, not the solution!
