When you try to access a computer running Windows NT Server or Workstation that is a member of your domain with one of the following method, and it fails... it will show this message: System Error 1789 has occurred. The trust relationship http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/28973-63-trust-relationship-workstation-primary-domain-failed between this workstation and the primary domain failed. Cause: The computer's machine account has the incorrect role or its password has become mismatched with that of the domain database. Fix: Log on locally as a local administrator (If you can). In the Network tool of Control Panel, select Change and enter a Workgroup name, leaving the domain. Restart the computer and log on locally as a local administrator. Or You can delete the existing computer account in Server Manager, recreate the computer account, synchronize the domain, and then on the client rejoin the domain. Share Freakykiwi 2 November 2011 11:14:16 I've struck this issue a few times, always with Windows 7 clients and Server 2003. If you can't log in locally try logging in as a domain administrator with the network disconnected (unplug LAN and disable wireless), this will allow the use of cached credentials. Once your in .. Reset the local administrator password log off and on as the local administrator to test it Disjoin the domain (change to a workgroup member instead) Restart as prompted Log in as the local administrator Rejoin the domain Score 0 Relate

Posted on 2010-11-18 Windows 7 Windows Server 2003 1 Verified Solution 4 Comments 2,757 Views Last Modified: 2012-05-10 I have a windows 7 pro workstation that won't let anyone with domain credentials log error 1789 in. We get Error 1789 "Error 1789 The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed." The two solutions I have found online (installing a hotfix or remove/add to domain) will not work because the workstation is saying that the local admin account is disabled. I need help coming up with a solution to get into this workstation and either install the hotfix or enable the local admin. My two current thoughts are to try and remote access error 1789 the the registry and enable the local admin account (don't know if this is even possible yet) or remove the hard drive and try to apply the hotfix like you would an os install or something (don't know if this is possible either). Lastly, I'm sick today and my mind is in a fog. Your local account doesnt have it. If you do it from a domain account that have admin rights it would work.
