Please check if the login is mapped in the database to a user and the user does have access to the database the default database does exists Access to a database in SQL Server is controlled by 2 level level 1: SQL login which controls access to the SQL Server instancelevel 2: database user - a login is mapped to a user in a database and a user in a database is different to the same user (name) in a different database even if the user name is the same. a mapped user needs permission to access the data

When logged in as 'sa' all reports can be refreshed but when logged in as any other user we receive a SQL Server Login window with the Use Trusted Connection checkbox. The only way that I'm able to proceed is to login as user 'sa' with the Use Trusted Connection checked. When I attempt to login as any other user we receive a Microsoft SQL server Login error

Microsoft does not provide very useful message boxes so below are some explanations why you get the error. Want to easily improve your SQL Server Skills? Before you dive in If you are NOT sql server error a DBA (Server Administrator) then read this. We had a number of online private chats using our website chat feature and we have identified there are a number of situations where you cannot do anything about it! We are aware some of you might be very new to this so I will provide you with simple list of questions or steps to check if you are in the 'cannot do anything about it' group. Before you start "fixing" it please go through the list below: Are you the person managing the server or the person who installed sql server (e.g. personal pc/laptop)? If no or you don't know, then there is a high chance you don't have permissions to fix it. What does it mean? It means you can only do what you are in control of (typing username, password) or trying steps that don't involve changing server configuration. If nothing works contact your server administrator (DBA). Are you connecting from an app (Visual Studio etc.) and not SSMS? If yes then try to connect from SSMS if it works then problem might be in the app. If no then is there any user account that works? Yes? Then username may not exist or might be mispelled. I have never used CR reports before, so this first go around hasn't been much fun. We are using CR version 14.1.1 When I try to connect, I get the following error:Logon failed.Details: ADO Error Code: 0x80040e4dSource: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL ServerDescription: Login failed for user 'xxxxx\xxxxx'.SQL State: 42000Native Error: 18456 [Database Vendor Code: 18456]The DBA folks don't know why this isn't connecting. When I suggested trying the ODBC interface, they told me that the Data Source Name should have had SQL in the list...and it doesn't. All that is in the source box is dBASE Files, Excel Files and MS Access Database. Can someone help, please? We are trying CR as a trial to see if this will work for us. Obviously, if we can't get it to connect to the database, we won't be purchasing CR. Thanks. 2060Views Re: Unable to connect to 2012 SQL database Brian Dong Oct 9, 2014 10:41 PM (in response to P B) Currently Being Moderated Hi,Crystal is still 32 bit. If you have created an ODBC datasource and you cannot see that datasource in Crystal, that usually indicates the datasource was created using the 64 bit ODBC Administrator. If you have not created the ODBC datasource then you will need to do that using the 32 bit ODBC Administrator. Once you have created the datasource and tested it, Crystal should be able to connect to it when you create a new ODBC connection. Same goes for OLE DB. Good luck,Brian Alert Moderator Like (0) Re: Unable to connect to 2012 SQL database P B Oct 10, 2014 3:14 PM (in response to Brian Dong) Currently Being Moderated Just talked to the DBA team. All our databases are 64 bit. Does this mean we can't use CR with any of our databases?
