Here are some ideas and I don't know if any of them will help: * make sure that the protege installation directory is completely deleted before the new install * make sure that you are using the right version to install (in particular the 32 bit vs. 64 bit) * install java first and then use the version without the jvm (you don't have to install java 5 - java 6 will work). If you succeed (or not) let us know because it would be nice to understand what causes this problem. Also if you get to the point where The install appeared to go well, but Protégé would not launch correctly; the initial menu appeared for a moment and then disappeared (Protégé crashed.)
