I have narrowed it down to BITS not starting.. When I open services and try to start it manually, I get the error "Windows could not start the BITS service on LOCAL COMPUTER. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified" I have tried the Microsoft FixIt and the Fix Windows Update utility from TheWindowsClub.. From another post, I also noticed the folder at \users\all error 2 the system cannot find the file specified windows service users\application data\microsoft\network\download is set to 'read only'.. I can uncheck that, but it stays as read only.. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.. Is this fixable? I'd like to update! Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified I get the same error message when trying to start Background Intelligent Transfer Service. I believe both of these services have been hosed by viruses that have now been removed. I managed to do a manual update to SP3 but this has not resolved the problem. First, you can't just use python as the executable. On your system, you've got python on the %PATH%, and it's the right Python version, with all the modules you depend on, etc. But you can't rely on that for all of your users. If you could, you wouldn't bother with py2exe in the first place.
