More often than not it will require service. Logged gene_can_sing Guest Re: err 20 « Reply #2 on: October 20, 2011, 09:24:23 AM » I started getting the dreaded er 20 on a 7D while filming a doc. error 20 canon in South America. It actually started here and my camera would not work for 30 minutes. I continually took out the battery and did this and that. Eventually, it magically started working. Then it happened on the filming trip. Same thing. No reason, just didn't work for 20 minutes or so and after lots of fiddling, it just came back on.On that trip, my camera got stolen though. Worst trip ever. I think that's something you have to send it in. The problem is, the er20 might be hard to reproduce in the repair shop. I just met a semi-pro shooter who finally had enough of Canon and went Nikon because of this. Once his third 7D broke during a shoot he had enough of it. Apparently all simply stopped shooting... Camera wigs out and gives an "Error 20" whenever I use the lcd screen instead of the little viewfinder you put your eye against. Any shot with some white in it is completely blowing out too! Have ruled out a lense problem as it happens with multiple lenses. Google suggests either a battery or mechanical fault. But, I thought I'd check here for any ideas before taking it in for a service.Whatever it is ruined heaps of good pano's of yesterdays storms too! _________________________ OzStorms | GT Photography Top #1142816 - 19/11/2012 21:14 Re: Canon 550D - Error 20 [Re: Mezo] Lightning....Lee Weather Freak Registered: 02/03/2011 Posts: 328 Hey Greg,Ouch! Not good to see you out of action! As you've already learnt from Google it's a mechanical fault code(meaning the cam has isolated it as being a mechanical malfunction), usually relates(unfortunately) to the mirror/shutter actuation but can be caused by other simpler things. The "right" answer is just to post it off to the service centre- especially if it's under warranty. The "wrong" answer is to have a play and see what you can deduce...of course if that's wrong I don't want to be right. I'd have a screw driver in it already!(as a cautionary tale read THIS Not everyone has such negative dealings with service centres but it's always best to be aware!)Now I take it you mean by “viewing on LCD”= "Live View- Mirror up" Yeah? And by the way you say you have blown out shots I would take a stab that it's in the "close" operation that the issue is happening. Ie. when the mirror/shutter go to shut, it's "sticking" causing the overexposure-I could be totally wrong but from your info that's my best guess. My suggestion, and you should only do this if you feel comfortabl
