Windows XP users usually get this error if they are not using a profile with Administrator privileges, or one that has incorrect/misconfigured permissions (Malware is one corruption cause, often it "attacks" user permissions to make itself harder to remove from the system). The game requires that the user logged into Windows has full administrator privileges to be able to write to the game data when the game needs to such as patching or installing/reinstalling. (Win7 Vista users should try these steps as a "just in case" test, but use the Win7/Vista steps here instead, and click the "My Computer is on a Workgroup" option). Perform the steps outlined in that article, but when you come to the steps asking to choose the "Account Type", please be sure to select the “Administrator” setting. After creating the new user account, click on the Windows "Start" button and choose the "Log off" option (not "Switch User"). Check that they exist and that you have permission to write to them. The program will now exit.Perhaps, last update may not have applied correctly. First check your antivirus / firewall (HIPS or sandbox can blocked some files ), UAC, and privileges you have on the account that you are using in the system (user/administrator). You can try also to copy all files from the backup folder inside your main DDO folder to the main DDO folder and then start the game. That should force to apply the game update again. After downloading the full installer and doing a full install and updating successfully, I keep getting a pair of Game Error [201] each time I try to connect game error 201 to a game server. This is a new Acer 8.1 system from Walmart, nothing user installed other than DDO. I currently have UAC disabled to remove one point of failure. I've tried various compatibility modes (Windows 7, Windows XP SP 3). I have tried running it in Administrator mode several times (and that's how the default shortcut has been reconfigured). One suggestion I discarded was to remove the password from the Admin account on the machine. I suspect the Admin account is disabled, I've done nothing to nor with it on the machine. windows-8.1 dungeons-dragons-online share|improve this question edited Sep 13 '14 at 21:02 asked Sep 13 '14 at 15:19 Fred Morris Napier 11617 What exactly is DDO?
