opened it again and got the error 21... since then ive been trying to restore it and end up with errors 21, 14, 1601. mostly 21.. but one time ive managed to restore it to 4.2.1 and got stuck with the jailbreak(redsnow).. sometimes i can get pass the restore progess bar but it suddenly reboots after 30-50%.. it gives a white screen then error 21 pops out from itunes.. sometimes the white screen has green vertical lines or blue apple error 11 flashing... i dont know what to do... please help me.. i also encountered error 9 but most of the error is 21... what i do to restore: 1. plug iphone to usb (which by the way, turns on once i plug it) i cannot switch it on/off since i always end up at the recovery mode every time i turn it on... also, sometimes when i switch it on, i only get a blank black screen... no apple logo. 2. put iphone to dfu mode... method 1: hold power and home while the iphone is on and wait unitl it shuts off and count from 1 to 7. then itunes reads it and i go with the restore process but when the phone is about to get to the apple logo screen where the wheel and progress bar shows up... its suddenly reboots and i get a white screen plus error 21 instead.. method2: same as the first one, but instead of counting 1 to 7 after the phone turns off. i rehold the home and power again and count 1 to 10 (which is the normal way in dfu mode) i also get the same results as to method 1. i also sometimes get a kernel panic during this process... i dont know whats wrong with my iphone... but i think it has to do with the connections or IC or something... im only a newbie..

mac while I went out to eat. When I came home, it wouldn't go back on or rest (home + power). I hooked it back up to the mac, thinking it wasn't charged and it said it was in DFU mode. I tried https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/46184/Weird+itunes+error+21,+cannot+restore. to restore it and said "error 21." I did everything I read on the Internet (set up a different user account, tried to restore from there, deleted iTunes, tried a new USB cable, tried several computers) and then I tried to install a jailbroken version of the OS on both the mac and PC, because I read that works, but it didn't work either (actually, the software I used goes through iTunes, so I still got error 21). The phone had the latest version of iOS 4 https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2708070?tstart=0 on it and was not jailbroken before. I cannot take it to a genius bar. The nearest genius bar is a 12 hour drive. iPhone, iOS 4 Posted on Jan 5, 2011 12:18 AM I have this question too Close Q: White Screen/Black Screen/Stuck in DFU (error 21) - Help! When i got back plugged into my computer to connect to iTunes, and what would you know it says in recovery mode, excellent this shoud be simple, but then just when it was nearly finished got the error 21 message and a bright white screen. i repeated this many times, i've tried on my work computer, and on the iMac we have here, but just keep getting the same error!! arghh. Please HELP Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by Lucy1967, Lucy1967 Apr 4, 2011 10:35 AM in response to AmandaGal Level 1 (0 points) Apr 4, 2011 10:35 AM in response to AmandaGal I too have dealt with this issue since the first time I tried to update my iphone 3Gs. An unknown error occurred. To get around this problem, iH8Sn0w has released a handy little tool called iREB (iTunes error 21 Restore Error Bypasser) for both Windows and Macs which can help bring your iPhone back to life. The latest version of this program supports iPhone 3.1 firmware running on the original iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPod touch 1G. Step 1: Start iTunes and put your phone into DFU mode: Press and hold the Home button and the Power button at the same time. After exactly 10 seconds release the Power button. Continue holding error 21 iphone the home button until you iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. At this point your iPhone/iPod touch screen will remain black. Step 2: Now close iTunes and Start iREB on Windows or Mac. Step 3: Simply select your device and wait for a few seconds until you get white or a red screen on your iPhone. Step 4: Now open iTunes and click on your phone from the sidebar in iTunes to get to this screen as shown in the screenshot below: Now press and hold left “alt” button (“Shift” button on Windows) on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” (Not “Update”) button in the iTunes and then release the “Shift” button. Select a custom .ipsw file and restore it. Hopefully you wont get any errors this time around! One thing to note here is that iREB is not for jailbreaking. It is only used for restoring to custom .ipsw firmware files via iTunes without any errors. Check out my guides posted here and here for jailbreaking and unlocking iPhone 3.1 firmware.
