to vote I have a laptop with 512Mb RAM, about 4Gb available disk space, processor Intel Pentium 1.4GHz. The O/S is Microsoft XP Professional. As I understand the info given on the SQL Server Express page, it should install under XP Professional.  Now, when I start installation everything seems OK. I get a particularly promising red message informing me that I already have .NET Framework 2.0 installed. However right at the very end I get this message: The SQL Server System Configuration Checker cannot be executed due to WMI configuration on the machine Error: 2147746132 (0x80040154). Installation then stops.   I tried one of the solutions suggested (this one: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/201234 )  which involved searching for these 2 files: Crsdll.dll and Crsapi.dll - but couldn't find them. Nor could I find the \Microsoft Site Server\Bin\ directory referred to. Yet allegedly SQL Server 2005 Express does install under XP Professional, so this all seems rather odd. Can anyone out there enlighten me?   I should point out that I have a student edition of MS Visual Studio 2003 connecting to the Northwind database installed, and wonder if this is affecting things. Alternatively, is my machine simply not powerful enough (e.g. insuffcient RAM or something)?   Any suggestions gratefully received! I intend to devote Monday (

16, 20091 0 0 0 Many things can cause a service, like IIS’s World Wide Web Publishing Service, to fail on startup. When troubleshooting such an issue, Process Monitor can be an invaluable tool. What Process Monitor does is monitor all File and Registry access on the system in real-time. The latest version of process monitor can be obtained here. Most of the time, we use this tool to troubleshoot Access Denied related issues. In those scenarios, Process Monitor shows exactly what user account tried to access https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/2c71b7ed-6a72-424c-ab1d-2c21cb9fe30e/error-2147746132-on-trying-to-install-sql-server-express?forum=sqlexpress what file or registry key when the Access Denied error occurred. Troubleshooting service startup issue when it’s not a simple Access Denied scenario When the issue is not Access Denied, it can be difficult to track down the root cause using Process Monitor. Below is an issue I worked on recently that’s a perfect example of this.
