As far as Irecall, 'doze has to occupy hd0,0, as evinced in the grub loading error unknown filesystem menu.lst ( rootnoverify (hd0,0) ).Deej Offline #3 2009-04-27 15:13:06 JK3mp Member Registered: 2009-03-25 Posts: 105 Re: Grub Error 22 [SOLVED] Ahhh..i must've got mixed up. My only labels, are sda -----sda1 <--some windows default something idk wtf it is, lol. only like 4mb or somethin-------sda2 <----NTFS volume (windows)-------sda3 <-----Linux Volume , and i thought it was based off there label, like hda1, is hd0,1 , and hda2, hd0,2 etc. So would the NTFS volume windows need to be set as (hd0,1) in the grub config? I tried several times, but thus far all i get is error 22 still. Since i dont want the "unknown" in the boot menu, i skip it in grub is that the issue ? i put sda2 as (0,2) and sda3 as (hd0,3) . I thought this was correct and i've switched it up just to see, but no avail. He

After installation, everything worked https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1628740 fine (in linux) but windows would not boot (unrecognized device string), so in grub (before booting into any system, the grub prompt) I hit whatever key it was to edit commands for the windows boot option to diagnose the problem. Problem was simple, the grub command that was installed for some reason specified only the device (hd0) and not the partition, so after some experimentation with this I modified the command to reference correctly the windows partition, yey! On reboot grub returns error 22. I booted into a linux disc and got a command prompt going. My linux partition appears to no longer function, I can not (manually) mount it, however I can manually mount the windows partition. I have tried this from 2 different linux discs, one that gave me a gui and one that gave me a cli, and both can not mount my linux partition. At this point I have no idea what the problem may be, all I know is that it started once I modified the grub command for windows from grub pre-boot screen. To reiterate, I was not booted into any system, I did not accidentally **** up the /boot/grub/menu.lst file, I merely used the grub boot interface to modify the windows grub command and then boot from the new command. Now linux partitions seem not to be mountable a

com> Subject: grub error 22. Bad partition table? Date: Wed, 24 Nov 2004 23:25:22 +0100 Tired of pulling out my hair I'll see if I can get some help here. The problem: On my single physical drive, partitioned, dual boot system with xp and FC2, grub can no longer boot to any of the fc2 kernels, I can only get WinXP to run. This started after I did two things. 1st I ran QTparted from knoppix on my system to get rid of a small partition which nothing else could seem to delete. It was the first partition of my extended partition (hda3?). PartitionMagic had complained 'unknown partition type' when I tried with it, even though it shows up as being fat32 - which is what I originally made it as. Because my wife has nearly killed me several times when I screw up the computer so she can't use it, the second thing I did was run windows rescue mode (or whatever it's called) and ran fixboot. This got WinXP back for me. Here's what I've been trying to fix this: (I've added the '>'s hoping it'll be easier to read for you) my first error message, looking rather grim was: >GRUB Loading stage1.5. >GRUB loading, please wait... >Error 22 If I put the Fedora Core 2 CD1 in and run root>linux rescue I get the following: An error occured trying to mount some or all of your system. Some of it may be mounted under /mnt/sysimage If I then press F3 (or whichever one it is) I get some more info as follows: <3>FAT:bogus number of reserved sectors <4>EXT2-fs warning:mounting uncheked fs ... .. <6>EXT3 FS on hda8, internal journal <6>EXT3-fs:mounted filesystem with ordered data mode <6>Kjounrnal starting.
