SQL Server Agent service should be running before we can execute maintenance plan. If we notice the first screen shot, it’s clear that SQL Server Agent was not running. So solution looked very simple, start the SQL Server Agent Service. It was not started by its own because it was set to manual mode.To avoid such error in the future, I change the “Start Mode” of the service, to automatic by going to the properties of the service.I also found that sometimes you would get this error even if the SQL Server Agent is running. In those cases, you need to check SQLAgent.out file to check if it’s started completely.Something SQLAgent.out would show ONLY be

If I try to run the job In SQL Management Studio I get an error saying: SQLServerAgent is not currently running so it cannot be notified of this action. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 22022). I made sure that SQLServerAgent was in fact running and tried running the job again (from SQL Managment Studio) but still got the same message. I found this knowledge base article which is telling me that I have http://dba.stackexchange.com/questions/29662/agent-job-will-not-run to edit the Registry in order to resolve the problem. Before I go in and start messing with the registry which is something I really don't want to do I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem and if they had to edit their registry to fix it? sql-server sql-server-2012 sql-server-agent jobs share|improve this question edited Dec 2 '12 at 6:23 Paul White♦ 29.5k11164263 asked Dec 2 '12 at 6:04 PokerPlayer23 1,05882844 3 Have you tried restarting the SQL Agent? –mrdenny Dec 2 '12 at 6:38 i haven't. I needed to create my job on the main server (which has the agent service running). I didn't know we had 2 SQL servers that were identical and that I was connecting to a different one every other time. Sorry about that, but thanks again for the helpful comments, I found some interesting things in the error logs that helped me figure this all out.

sql server dbengine Question kranp on Wed, 16 Jan 2013 13:13:14 Hello All, We have sql 2008 R2 SP1 A/P cluster running on VM. SQL Server Agent jobs are not running. If I manually try to run the job it gives below error 'SQL Server Agent is not currently running so it cannot be notified of this action. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 22022)' I checked SQL server Agent service is running, and the service account under it is running has 'sa' access to sql server. 'Agent Xps' has been set to 1. If I browse to SQLagent.out file. it is completely blank. Any help on this will be appreciated. Thank You. -Kranp. RepliesAshwin Menon on Wed, 16 Jan 2013 13:41:26 Was there any restart happened for SQL Agent? See SQL error log and see if MSDB is up and online, some times if the MSDB is not recovered properly, SQL Agent shows as started but doesnt really come up online till MSDB is recovered properly. Is the SQL Server Agent resource running? Do you see any errors in the Application event logs? vr.babu on Wed, 16 Jan 2013 13:42:46 did you check the startup account used to start the agent servicesTom Phillips on Wed, 16 Jan 2013 21:37:59 This is most likely this issue (even though it refrences SQL 2000, Agent has not changed): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911841 This probably means SQL Agent is not installed correctly on your cluster. Is your SQL Agent in the same cluster group as the SQL Server? If you can not do it Ashwin may be correct. Try restarting your agent. problem still exists do a server restart. if problem still exists i am sure you will find the root cause. Server restart will fix your problem (or) will let you know the problem. good luck kumarkranp on Wed, 23 Jan 2013 1
