4, 5, or 5.5 product or updates, the installer returns one of the following error messages:"Error 2203: Database: C:\Windows\Installer\d79c0.msi. Cannot open database file. System error -2147287035" Solutions Solution 1: Grant the SYSTEM account Full Control permissions. Verify the directory permissions to grant the SYSTEM account Full Control permissions to the folder referenced in the log (for example, C:\Windows\Installer\c5ab.msi). The folder referenced is often \Windows\Installer.Attempt error code 2203 uninstall the following steps on the \Windows\Installer folder. If fixing the permissions to the installers folder does not resolve the issue, review the installation log file for the folder referenced in the error message. For information on finding the folder in the log, see Troubleshoot CS5 installation with install logs (cpsid_84451.)Windows XPWindows Vista/7 Windows XP (Windows XP Home only) Restart in safe mode by pressing F8 as you start up and selecting Safe Mode from the list of startup options. Note: For additional assistance with Safe Mode, see the Microsoft support website. Choose Start > My Computer > Folder Options, and then click the View tab. In the Advanced Settings section, deselect the Use Simple File Sharing (Recommended) option and click OK. Navigate to the parent folder and right-click on the next folder. In the Attributes section, deselect the Read-Only option, click Apply, and then click Appl. In the Security tab, make sure that Administrators and System are listed and permissions for security are set to Full Control. Click Advanced, select the Owner tab, and select Administrators. An Internal Error Occurred" During Office 2010 Setup Unfortunately when installing Office 2010 not everything goes smoothly. Here is how to fix an Internal Error 2203 which we ran into during one installation of OneNote 2010. The Error We ran into the error 2203 following error while trying to add OneNote to a current install of Office Professional Plus 2010 32-bit on a 64-bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate. It is actually a permissions error to the Temp folder and we need to give everyone access. The Fix First go into Services by typing services.msc into the Search box in the Start Menu and hit Enter. Scroll down to Windows Installer and internal error 2203 Stop the service… Then restart it and close out of the Services window. Now navigate to the Temp folder by typing %temp% into the Search box in the Start Menu and hit Enter. The Temp folder will open…right-click an empty area in the folder and select Properties. Select the Security tab and under the Group or user names box click on Edit. The Permissions for Temp window appears…click the Add button. Now type Everyone in the Objects Names box and click Check Names which will underline it as shown here then click OK. Now under Permissions for Everyone click the box to give it Full control and click OK. Now restart the Office application installation… Success!
