manually installing grub on moved Ubuntu (now on a diff HDD). Predator106September 10th, 2008, 02:21 AMHello, I just moved Ubuntu from one hard grub error 27 unrecognized command drive to another, everything is there, permissions correct, I set the HDD grub ls error 27 unrecognized command I copied everything to as primary in the boot order, and I removed my old hard drive from the error 27 unrecognized command grub centos boot order just to be sure. All of that was in the BIOS, of course. But now, after booting to that hard drive, I get Error loading Operating System. Yeah, I grub filesystem type unknown figured that would happen, I needed to reinstall GRUB on this new HDD. Well this is what I typed in, this is the hard drive I need GRUB on, but it doesn't want to do it... I can't figure it out... This is the entirety of what I had done. Well, excluding trying other things to try to get it to work,
Error 8 Kernel Must Be Loaded Before Booting
but this is the example of it...not working :). I'm on the LiveCD naturally, also. ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo su root@ubuntu:/home/ubuntu# fdisk -l Disk /dev/sda: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 9729 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Disk identifier: 0xeaa4c889 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 1 9327 74919096 83 Linux /dev/sda2 9328 9729 3229065 5 Extended /dev/sda5 9328 9729 3229033+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris Disk /dev/sdb: 120.0 GB, 120034123776 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 14593 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Disk identifier: 0xaf1caf1c Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 1 14593 117218241 83 Linux Disk /dev/sdc: 150.0 GB, 150039945216 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 18241 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Disk identifier: 0xdd1759df Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdc1 * 1 18241 146520801 83 Linux Disk /dev/sdd: 30.0 GB, 30005821440 bytes 255 heads, 62 sectors/track, 3706 cylinders Units = cylinders of 15810 * 512 = 8094720 bytes Disk identifier: 0x20202020 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/s

I've done what I've always done in the past. "sudo grub root(hd0,1) setup (hd0)" It enters grub fine, but when I type in "root(hd0,1)" It replies "Error 27: Unrecognized Command" WTF? I've tried twice now reloading it from the live cd. Please help! I'd be happy to install grub2 or whatever I need to do to get my bootloader back without completely reinstalling the OS. P.S. I KNOW grub is installed on (hd0,1) so that is not the problem. Last edited by Arwen17evenstar; April 19th, 2010 at 05:24 AM.
