It seems to often have a problem in the charging hardware of the iPhone. So my first trouble shooting steps would be to carefully clean the iPhone Charging Port. See if fixed. Next step would be to try a different USB cable. Next step would be to try a different USB port on the back of computer, or different computer. Next step would be to try a new battery. Next step would be replacing charging port assembly. Try getting the phone into DFU mode (hold down home button and then plug into USB plugged into computer) and restore it.
