The fix is to reinstall the recovery manager (F11 option at boot) from TI 2009. I have not defragged my hard drive so that is not causing the problem. Almost seems like Acronis is doing it to itself https://forum.acronis.com/forum/5080 somehow during the automated backup session. This is a very prevalent problem starting with TI 2009 and continuing with the current release. Why is there no constructive response from Acronis about how they are going to fix this problem? Telling a user not to defrag their hard drive is a poor response, as is telling them to reinstall the recovery manager or run fixmbr from the Recovery Console every time it happens. The problem is that this will happen when I want to use the F11 option and it will not be available. This is a problem Acronis created and they need to fix it, via a patch for 2009 and 2010. Even though you have the Win 7 defragmenter disabled, Windows 7 will still do a boot optimization every 3 days. This involves optimizing the location of the files needed to start Windows by moving them to the start of the Win 7 partition. Look in your event log (Event Viewer > Windows logs > Application) for defrag event 258. Most system builders experience “mobo” failures at least once. In fact, many retailers employ different return policies specifically for their motherboards, due to a high rate of return. In my experience, though, motherboard problems are largely user-related. With the exception of user-incurred damage, most unbootable scenarios can reverse wit

Then i had a power cut while the PC was on and now when i boot, instead of the Acronis options i get "MBR Error 3", it still boots but i want my options back and to get rid of this error. Any ideas? Thanks Major_Disaster, Jun 5, 2006 #1 bodgy Registered Member Joined: Sep 22, 2005 Posts: 2,387 Location: Qld. I've learnt not to worry about this. OSS seems to randomly change its mind, sometimes I get an ' Invalid Boot.ini' message and then it boots quite happily into XP with the XP splash screen. Other times I get the 'MBR3' one and it boots using the original method I had before installing OSS which is verbose with SOS - this is a light blue screen listing all the modules being loaded by XP and is a much quicker boot than the standard one. Acronis normally say, just re-install or re-activate OSS and it will disappear - it may do on other systems, but makes no difference on mine. Occasionally I find OSS loses itself all together and comes up with a 'No boot file' message - this is solved by booting from the recovery CD and re-activating OSS. On that problem Acronis have said it is probably caused by defragging - however, I find it to be a random occurence since I always defrag on a Saturday - and that error pops up sometimes 2 or 3 days later. Sorry this didn't actually help you solve your problem, but I thought if you suddenly start getting other error messages - this may help you not be too worried.
