One very common error when setting up the Agile Platform server error 401 - unauthorized access is denied due to invalid credentials for the first time usage, is the HTTP exception "Unauthorized", with HTTP error code 401.1, 401.1 iis thrown by Internet Information Services (IIS). The usual exception that one can get in the web browser (or even on the application if accessing https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/871179 a web page or service) is: HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials. Internet Information Services (IIS) The possible causes for this error can be many related to a logon failure of the application credentials. However, Microsoft as a very cool https://www.outsystems.com/forums/discussion/5652/tip-troubleshooting-the-401-1-unauthorized-error-in-iis/ article about troubleshooting the 401.1 Unauthorized error at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909887. Jun 17, 2009 08:31 AM|sparkymark75|LINK I've migrated a few ASP.NET 2 pages from a development server to production and configured them the same. However I can't get access to the production pages, with the error in the subject of this post being returned after 3 prompts for credentials. The web server is a W2K3 SP2 server. The website has a hostname setup and associated with it http error 401.1 and DNS is configured appropriately. The website has it's own application pool which uses a domain account. The domain account being used is a member of the local IIS_WPG group and is also being used without problem in another application pool on the same server. The website has been configured to use Windows Authentication and the web.config file is also set to use this. I did initially think that I may need to follow the MS KB article which details how to perform the DisableLoopbackCheck registry change but I have other websites on this server configured in a similar manner (domain account for apppool, hostname used on site) and they function without issue. iis unauthorized 401.1 host Reply ganeshanekar 542 Posts Re: Yet another HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials. Jun 17, 2009 09:53 AM|ganeshanekar|LINK This still may be a permissions issue may be on web content. Ensure "Authenticated Users" are added READ permissions on web content. Download Procmon from www.sysinternals.com and reproduce the issue and check for "Access Denied" errors and fix those. If it does not help, enable Failure auditing from Local GP and check security event logs for failures. HT

It usually contains some extra information for these kinds of errors. –Ronald Wildenberg Oct 8 '10 at 16:38 you can also turn on web site logging and look in the IIS web logs, not sure if they would provide more info or not. –BlackICE Oct 8 '10 at 17:01 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 23 down vote As a quick and dirty fix, grant the IIS_IUSRS group Read/Execute or Modify permissions to your web folder... BUT DON'T DO THIS ON AN INTERNET FACING SERVER, read on.... To fix this properly you should grant the Application Pool Identity for your site Read/Execute or Modify permissions to your application's web folder. To do this: Open IIS Manager, navigate to your website or application folder where the site is deployed to. Open Advanced Settings (it's on the right hand Actions pane). Note down the Application Pool name then close this window Double click on the Authentication icon to open the authentication settings Disable Windows Authentication Right click on Anonymous Authentication and click Edit Choose the Application pool identity radio button the click OK Select the Application Pools node from IIS manager tree on left and select the Application Pool name you noted down in step 3 Right click and sele
