I am using a function to return a dataset into the mainModule. HTML Code: dsOMD = getOMDinfo(psSerialNbr) dtOMD = dsOMD.Tables(0) The Function code that is being used is as follows: HTML Code: Function getOMDinfo(ByVal strSerialNumber As String) As System.Data.DataSet Dim myconnection1 = New OdbcConnection("DSN=omd.udd;uid=;") Dim strSQL As String = String.Empty Dim strTable As String = "usqlda.SERIAL_EQUIP" strSQL = "SELECT SERIAL_EQUIP.[MODEL], SERIAL_EQUIP.[SERIAL], SERIAL_EQUIP.[CUSTOMER_NUMBER], SERIAL_EQUIP.[PROGRAM_TYPE], SERIAL_EQUIP.[EQUIP_ID] " & _ "FROM(usqlda.SERIAL_EQUIP) WHERE (((SERIAL_EQUIP.[SERIAL])=@strSerialNumber));" Dim adapter1 As New OdbcDataAdapter(strSQL, myconnection1) Dim data As New DataSet adapter1.Fill(data, strTable) Return data End Function I am getting the following error: Message: "ERROR [42000] [Transoft][TSODBC][usqlsd]Name expected ([)" Source: "TSODBCW.DLL" If I change the code to use a datareader it I can loop through the data but a data reader is not recommended to pass through the layers and so I'm wanting to create a dataset/data table process. Anyone have any ideas why the dataset/dataTable code is not working properly? Thank you in advance for your assistance and help! Throughout this database, most (but not all) columns whose data type is date give me trouble whenever I run queries. I do not have any trouble querying any columns other than these date type columns. The following query: SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(LINKEDSERVERNAME, 'SELECT Product, DateLastReceipt FROM ProductTable') Gives the following error message in SQL Server Management Studio (2012): Msg 8114, Level 16, State 10, Line 1. Error converting data type DBTYPE_DBDATE to date. I have tried using CONVERT to convert the datatype to varchar per the following discussion without any luck (same error message): http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/transactsql/thread/3a7d94ee-46a0-40ce-ae95-127ec462fbff Now, there are some columns of the exact same data type (date) that do not give me any trouble at all. In my ProductTable, for example, there is a column called AddedToFile that shows the date that the record was created. This column gives me no trouble at all. Any help someone could offer would be MUCH appreciated. Thanks. sql database odbc sql-server-2012 share|improve this question edited Jul 14
