Please verify that port 25 is not blocked. Furthermore, if it did not work try using another port. That is my suggestion for now. Let me know if it did not work. Check network status, make sure select Obtain DNS server address automatically and Obtain IP address automatically check box 2. Make sure your mailbox size not too large. 3. Create a new profile to test this issue. If this problem does not occur in the new Outlook profile, the old Outlook is corrupted. We can delete that and use a new Outlook profile. A colleague of mine has encounters errors like: An unknown error has occurred. Account: ‘mail.different.bg', Server: ‘mail.different.bg', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: ‘421 Cannot connect to SMTP server 212.70.124.241 (212.70.124.241:25), http://www.pc-freak.net/blog/what-causes-the-421-cannot-connect-to-smtp-server-error-and-a-quick-work-around/ connect error 10060', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 421, Error Number: 0x800CCC67 while he was trying to send some emails with his Outlook Express mail client on his desktop computer running Windows XP, since he http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-2118225/outlook-2013-connect-smtp-error-421-0x80042109-fixed.html is not too much computer literate he contacted me for help on what is causing the error and how he can get through the issue and send the prepared emails to the destinations ASAP. After error 421 I have asked him a few questions necessary to better understand the status of the problem and where does it originated I have come to the conclusion that it's very likely that his outgoing SMTP port (25) outgoing TCP/IP traffic passing through the Internet Service Provider is filtered. When the 421 Cannot connect to SMTP server problem occured, he was actually in his parents house provided with an internet connection through 421 cannot connect a BTC ADSL see BTC (Vivacom)'s ADSL page for reference I have instructed my friend to try connecting to the SMTP (25) port of the questionable email server using window's telnet client i order to check if my assumption that the outoging SMTP 25 port traffic is filtered. I instructed him to issue a command like which is so common this days and it's not news to the Sysadmins out there: cmd> telnet mail.server.net 25 This prooved my theory that the 421 Cannot connect to SMTP server was caused by a filtered traffic on the outgoing network STMP port (25). Some Internet Providers out there has that annoying practice of filtering the outgoing SMTP connections, because they couldn't deal with infected Windows computers who start acting as a SPAM networks in another more clever way, however I should admit this is pretty dumb, since it creates numerous problems to the end user like in this particular case. The temporary work around for him that I suggested was to use the mail server Webmail Interface before he moves back with his notebook back to his ISP at home which doesn't include such a foolish way to filter spammers. Tags: Apps Outlook Connection Internet Service Providers Last response: April 24, 2014 12:55 PM in Apps General Discussion Share James Blonde April 24, 2014 11:34:02 AM I noticed I had a problem with sending mail last week, which has just been fixed by my ISP (who are not my mail provider). I can see exactly what they've done, but it doesn't make sense...! Can someone help? I first noticed the problem last week when sending mail via Outlook, where I was getting the error mentioned in the subject line - cannot connect to SMTP / error 421 / 0x8004219. I could still receive mail without a problem. I had made no changes to the set up at all (same setup I've had for years, through multiple ISP changes), but I have changed my ISP in the last month. I hadn't sent any mail since changing broadband provider until last week. My Mail Provider settings are: mail.freenetname.co.uk smtpmail.freenetname.co.uk Outgoing mail requires authentication Incoming server - port 110 Outgoing server - port 25 I am still able to use these settings on my mobile, as long as I'm not using my home wireless / broadband to connect. If I use wireless, mail will not send. I had run a repair on the PST file, and had played with settings in Avast - 2 potential solutions, which didn't make a difference, so I contacted my ISP today. After a bit of investigation, she made a change to my outgoing mail server, which is now: smtp.orangehome.co.uk untick outgoing mail requires authentication and now mail works. and I don't understand why! Surely my mail settings are governed by my mail provider, not my ISP? Otherwise they wouldn't still work on my phone? Is my mail now being sent via Orange / EE, rather than via my mail provider?? Will my mail still work on my mobile phone if I change the outgoing server to Orange? I'm confused!!!!!! Can anyone help?? It's one of many anti-spam measures adopted by providers. Yours is just slow to have done so as most made the switch years ago. If your off ISP mail provider offers service on another port (usually SSL on 587) you can try setting that up. Share Can't find
