Say the recordset has 500 entries. For some entries, when I update I have no issue but when I update older entries from an access database, I get the following error. "Runtime error 438 Object doesn't support this property or method". I'm using ADO connectivity and excel as a database Example: Code: rs.Open http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?460591-RESOLVED-Runtime-error-438-Object-doesn-t-support-this-property-or-method "SELECT * FROM [tblfissection$] Where RequestNo = " & requestNoSubstringed, conn, adOpenStatic, adLockOptimistic, adCmdText On Error GoTo updateFISTable 'rs.Fields(1) = "" 'rs.Fields(2) = DTEvaluationDate.Value rs.Fields(3) = TextProposedSolOutline.Text Any ideas Reply With Quote Mar 30th, 2007,08:44 AM #2 sparbag View Profile View Forum Posts Hyperactive Member Join Date May 2006 Posts 361 Re: Runtime error 438 Object doesn't support this property or method Hello, From Microsoft website: Run Time Error 438 - Object Doesn't Support this Property or Method The most common cause of error 438 is not maintaining binary compatibility between successive versions of your components. Each COM interface has an associated GUID that is called an interface ID (IID). Each coclass has an associated GUID that is called class ID (CLSID). When you compile an ActiveX component in Visual Basic, the CLSIDs and IIDs are compiled into the component's type library. Example A program that consists of a Visual Basic client and an ActiveX DLL is released to the user community. At a later time, additional functionality is to be added to the DLL component. The necessary modifications are made, and the ActiveX DLL is compiled without maintaining binary compatibility. When the DLL is released, the client that is trying to use the DLL will throw run time error 438. The reason this occurs is that when the DLL was compiled, a fresh set of GUIDs was compiled into the

It recently started causing the following error: Run-time error '438' Object doesn't support this property or method People say that this error can be caused by the KB960715 security update being applied, which sets killbits on various ActiveX control methods which were deemed a security risk. But this or no other security update has been applied recently. Others say that installing Microsoft Visual time error 438 Basic 6.0 Service Pack 6 Cumulative Update will update the flex grid. This requires VB6 to be installed as a prerequisite so I installed that on my PC and then the update, and retrieved the updated MsFlxGrd.ocx file(Version: 6.1.98.12) and copied to the application machine, but the error still prevails. Someone here says you can disable the killbit in the registry. But there are afew hundred nodes in the location they suggest, none of which has the same guid as the one they point out. Any ideas? ms-access vb6 msflexgrid share|improve this question edited May 5 '15 at 16:28 JasonMArcher 6,22183744 asked May 4 '10 at 16:39 Dan 14.3k37120181 1 I know you didn't do it, but using an outside data grid control in an Access app indicates that the orginal developer was basically not really competent as an Access developer. Access doesn't need a non-native data grid because it's own datasheets and continuous forms provide all the flexibility you need, and are fully bound. –David-W-Fenton May 7 '10 at 1:33 @David That is interesting to know. I'm not an Access Developer myself, so was hoping I could just apply a band-aid solution. But I guess if all else fails I can look into removing the flex grid. –Dan May 7 '10 at 8:54 1 My guess is t

A while back I created a script in a database to recognize an open Outlook session, go to one of the public folders and to download emails into the database. This has worked just fine for years. That ended today. The company upgraded to Windows 7 with MS Office 2010. Now when I run the script I get the Run-Time Error 438 - Object doesn't support this property of method. Here is the code. 'Recognize open session of Outlook. Set OL = GetObject("", "Outlook.Application") Set Olns = OL.GetNamespace("MAPI") 'Assign Public Folders to variables. Set myfolder1 = OL.folders("Public Folders") - This is the line where the error occurs. Set myfolder2 = myfolder1.folders("All Public Folders") Set myfolder3 = myfolder2.folders("Department/Division") Set myfolder4 = myfolder3.folders("Web Based Quote Exceptions") Set myfolder5 = myfolder4.folders("Deleted Items") Any advice out there? I would greatly appreciate it!!!
