(Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) directory lookup for the file failed with the operating system error 3 For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=10.50.2500.0+((KJ_PCU_Main).110617-0038+)&EvtSrc=Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.ExceptionTemplates.FailedOperationExceptionText&EvtID=Attach+database+Server&LinkId=20476 ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo) ------------------------------ Directory lookup for the file "G:\SQLLOG\NAV_D_CQPA_370B_Log.ldf" failed with the operating system error 3(The system cannot find the path specified.). (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 5133) ------------------------------ Resolution- 1) Check for the file path during attach. In my case as i don't have directory lookup for the file failed with the operating system error 5 the Log File (.ldf) it was taking a random path which does not exist in the system. 2) Delete the selected file (in my case the log file) and click attach. The system creates the missing file automatically. Please refer to the following blog to install Northwind sample database in SQL Server Express 2005. Also make sure you have the right permissions on the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\data folder.http://blogs.msdn.com/dparys/archive/2008/07/23/how-to-install-the-nortwind-sample-database-in-sql-server-express.aspxIf there are any more questions, please let me know.Thanks.***Xiao Min Tan***Microsoft Online Community*** Marked as answer by HESHAM HEMDAN Monday, October 12, 2009 11:17 AM Monday, October 12, 2009 6:36 AM Reply | Quote Moderator All replies 0 Sign in to vote It seems that the guys had the similar problem, look here for possible solution: http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=91687 Hope that helps. ---------- StarWind Software developer ( http://www.starwindsoftware.com ) Proposed as answer by Paul Svirin

You can click the remove button for the log if you're attaching via the management console or you can have no log file specified if you're attaching via a script. share|improve this answer answered Jan 7 '10 at 4:34 melkisadek 6221723 I am guessing SQL did not create one itself Do I lose functionality or performance if click on the remove button?
