rise to the top TNS-12500: TNS:listener failed to start a dedicated server process Oracle9i Database on Windows 2003 64x server up vote 1 down vote favorite My client wants to move his database from Windows 2000 server to Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition 64x server. I have created the Windows servers in VMware and installed the Oracle 9i databases on it. When I try to connect to the database Oracle 9i installed on Windows 2003 using sqlplus, using the System account on the same Windows Server 2003, it is giving following error in the listener.ora log file: 12-JUN-2015 23:30:55 * (CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME=HRPRD)(SERVER=dedicated)(CID=(PROGRAM=E:\APPS\ORAHOME\bin\sqlplusw.exe)(HOST=PEOPLETECH-2003)(USER=PSOFT))(SERVER=dedicated)) * (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=192.168.1.59)(PORT=3348)) * establish * HRPRD * 12500 TNS-12500: TNS:listener failed to start a dedicated server process TNS-12546: TNS:permission denied TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error TNS-00516: Permission denied 32-bit Windows Error: 5: Input/output error TNSNAMES.ORA entry is: INST1_HTTP = (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.1.59
Member No.: 47,682 I have to install Oracle Application Server Standard Edition One 10g (10.1.2.0.1) on a virtual machine (VMWare) with 1GB of RAM, 20GB of disk and Windows 2003 Server 64-bit. The installation includes Oracle Portal with repository infrastructure. The same installation on a server with 1GB of RAM, 20GB of disk and Windows 2003 Server operating http://dba.stackexchange.com/questions/103972/tns-12500-tnslistener-failed-to-start-a-dedicated-server-process-oracle9i-data system 32-bit working properly. The installation starts fine but when you start configuring the infrastructure layer (2 layers are: Infrastructure and Portal) fails Configuration assistant "Internet Directory Configuration Assistant".Watching log, I can see that the assistant can not connect to the database. With sqlplus I can connect as "/ as sysdba" (the state of http://dbaforums.org/oracle/index.php?showtopic=21980 the instance is OPEN), but not as system@asdb (asdb is the name of the database). File listener.log shows the error TNS-12500:12-SEP-2012 20:06:04 * (CONNECT_DATA=(CID=(PROGRAM=)(HOST=__jdbc__)(USER=))(SERVICE_NAME=asdb.oas.caja)) * (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=192.168.2.2)(PORT=3928)) * establish * asdb.oas.caja * 12500TNS-12500: TNS:listener failed to start a dedicated server process TNS-12546: TNS:permission denied TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error TNS-00516: Permission denied 32-bit Windows Error: 5: Input/output errorIs the problem that I'm trying to do the installation on 64-bit???Thanks for your help burleson View Member Profile Sep 19 2012, 07:03 AM Post #2 Advanced Member Group: Members Posts: 13,207 Joined: 26-January 04 Member No.: 13 Hi,>> Windows 2003 Server 64-bit. First thing, confirm that your PC is 64-bit:http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_client_32_bit_or_64_bit.htmIf it is, you problem is likely a permission problem:http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_ora_12546_tns_...sion_denied.htm -------------------- Hope this helps. . . Date: Wed, 26 Nov 2008 10:37:03 +0100 hi, I have a problem (as in subject) with the following configuration ora9.2.0.6 on Win2003 (64-bit) on Intel XEON http://www.freelists.org/post/oracle-l/listener-failed-to-start-a-dedicated-server-process I know this is not certified by Oracle (32-bit ora on http://www.progtown.com/topic539807-listener-9g-on-w2003-64bit.html 64-bit Win), but so far all seemed ok and as this is not a production site (rather an exercise) I did not expect such problem We can run server, start listener - all is fine. But when trying a remote connection, "listener failed to start a error 5 dedicated server process" 26-NOV-2008 09:57:55 * (CONNECT_DATA=(SID=test1)(SERVER=DEDICATED)(CID=(PROGRAM=C:\oracle\product\ora9206\bin\sqlplus.exe)(HOST=test)(USER=oracle))) * (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=10.0.1.74)(PORT=4066)) * establish * test1 * 12500 TNS-12500: TNS:listener failed to start a dedicated server process TNS-12546: TNS:permission denied TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error TNS-00516: Permission denied 32-bit Windows Error: 5: Input/output error on metalink there is a note on such kind of problems, but it is not a loaded error 5 input system, plenty of RAM, no of processes certainly not a limited factor here, listener run on SYSTEM privileges as well as db instances. Windows error 5 is "Access is denied", and while this indicates something I can not imagine what more should be done. I ask You, because I am not too familiar with Windows environment and very likely I forget/miss something obvious (in this env).
